mouths.
this is the last page in my sketchbook. originally there were 70 pages, but i tore out about 18 of them out of frustration. obviously i show my practice work and i'm not ashamed or secretive about it. but then there's stuff that's like half-assed practice work, or trying-to-shoot-a-high-energy-laser-while-my-mom's-on-my-cell-phone kind of distractions that screw stuff up. i won't show stuff i screw up while i'm distracted, or at least not in pen and ink. it's all in the trash being recycled.
so now, on to sketchbook #2...
(explore!)
So this is basically me when I'm being totally myself.
Sketchbook in hand, hat on my head and pulling a weird face.
You don't get much more Katie-esque than this! haha!
I always have my sketchbook with me. I draw in it a lot but I also use it to write down notes because my memory is terrible so I'm always jotting things down! I always try and cram loads on one page for some reason though so it's still no where near full :P

1947 / 48 Spring/Summer
At Martha's, waiting to be called to table for boxing day supper. Our niece and nephew loaned me some markers, and I noticed too late that the orange one was perfumed. Now my sketchbook is all stinky.
Among the many drawings I did this summer were two concertina sketchbooks , drawn in the woodlands at Walden. These follow in the style of my "Red Notebooks" drawn at Simon's Wood in the winter this past year. They are to be viewed asa scroll and therefore do not have a single vanishing point, rather they are are from multiple angles as I worked in the woods. Drawn in ink and graphite.
Here is my sketchbook doodle and how I experimented making a greeting card. I used the fantasy flower drawing then free motion stitched it with black thread on a painted silk 4" x 6" interfaced card. Painted with Dyna-Flo paints - I will satin stitch the edges and attach a postcard to the reverse - I send these to my friends as greeting cards and notes.
Trying to capture the colours of the countryside I was cycling through and using the route maps to suggest gradients.
