Threw my chance into the Polaroid lego ideas challenge earlier. Didn’t win, but made something very personal to me! My description for the contest went as followed:
If I had a Polaroid camera, I would take photos to reference when sketching in my sketchbook! I love drawing ships and old forms of transportation, so my Lego Polaroids show a ship pulling into port as if I was there to capture the moment. When creating them, I took inspiration from the modern day maritime museum when I saw tall ships manned by volunteers coming back from the sea. You can even see a modern day city behind the ships captured on my Lego Polaroid as if the same volunteers are sailing this Lego ship. I've stitched the Polaroids into my Lego sketchbook next to sketches of the ship, made with my trusty Lego writing utensils. Good Luck to everyone in the contest!
Sketchbook Vintage
> Original Zoopress
(explore!)
So this is basically me when I'm being totally myself.
Sketchbook in hand, hat on my head and pulling a weird face.
You don't get much more Katie-esque than this! haha!
I always have my sketchbook with me. I draw in it a lot but I also use it to write down notes because my memory is terrible so I'm always jotting things down! I always try and cram loads on one page for some reason though so it's still no where near full :P

It's been a while since I worked on a fashion illustration.

some recent sketches~
I got a new sketchbook from a friend and I love it - I feel really inspired lately to draw again :)
This week life is crazy (with sketchbook skool commitments and trying to get everything done before I head off to Brazil for the USK symposium later next week ) but I still want to keep posting here as well… so here are a few photos of my sketchbook from last week. I will try to find time to scan and post later in the week.
I am enjoying the Zeta book more than I expected and although I don't normally like spiral bound books, the Stillman and Birn books are so sturdy and well made that it is nice to use. I love the book sitting flat. The small size is a constraint but fun.
Just a reminder - this is not my normal book - I am using it as a fill-in for 2-3 weeks before I go to Brazil. For details on my normal sketchbooks please check out this page.
At Martha's, waiting to be called to table for boxing day supper. Our niece and nephew loaned me some markers, and I noticed too late that the orange one was perfumed. Now my sketchbook is all stinky.
Among the many drawings I did this summer were two concertina sketchbooks , drawn in the woodlands at Walden. These follow in the style of my "Red Notebooks" drawn at Simon's Wood in the winter this past year. They are to be viewed asa scroll and therefore do not have a single vanishing point, rather they are are from multiple angles as I worked in the woods. Drawn in ink and graphite.
Here is my sketchbook doodle and how I experimented making a greeting card. I used the fantasy flower drawing then free motion stitched it with black thread on a painted silk 4" x 6" interfaced card. Painted with Dyna-Flo paints - I will satin stitch the edges and attach a postcard to the reverse - I send these to my friends as greeting cards and notes.
