I guess someone decided it was time for a new message...

Now there is a message on the back too.

Gentlemen while the annual Polar Bear Swim was taking place they were discussing the multitude of challenges taking place in California, the USA as well as global issues. They were very opinionated , but they also have been around!

Pleasant?

Try telling that to the poor homeless person whose home is a Bivouac here.

IBM quantum processor internals on display at #MakerFaire 2018 San Mateo, California.

It's a #SignOfTheTimes that this type of processing has the potential to solve currently unsolvable problems at far lower than current power consumption and could render current encryption algorithms obsolete in less than a decade.

The actual processor is in the silver cylinder at the bottom marked with a "Q". In operation it would be in a container chilled to liquid helium temperatures around 4 degrees above absolute zero - much too warm for the processor. The various stages from top to bottom provide additional levels of cooling to bring the processor down to around 0.01 degrees above absolute zero, colder than deep space.

The tubes and rigid coax are part of the cooling system and guides that relay the microwave signals to and from the processor.

Urban Street Photography

Street portrait - I've taken Jill's photo a number of times as she always asks me to every time we see each other. Jill has had a tough life, one of drugs, booze and partner abuse; but she's always smiling. I hadn't seen he for a while and it turns out she's been in jail/rehab. However, its nice to see he sober and looking a lot better than when I saw he last.

Sign on the Bali Hai Apartments

Sunnyvale, California

Bali Ha'I is a fictional island that appears in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "South Pacific," based on James A. Michener's book "Tales of the South Pacific."

South Pacific was very successful on Broadway, and was made into a movie that was also commercially successful.

When I was young, my parents' record collection included an LP of songs from the Broadway show, performed by the original cast members.

"No Bicycles" sign in Coyote Hills Regional Park

Fremont, California\

IMO, any idiot could tell the difference between the trails on which bicycles are allowed, and grasslands where no bicycles - or pedestrians, for that matter - should be.

I have my own bias, but I'll just say that it's an open question whether anyone who would ride a bicycle where it's obviously inappropriate would pay any attention to a sign. But I underhand why the park district posts the signs.
