The wi-fi signal booster unit sits among family photos in our livingroom. Sign of the times.

I pass this sign frequently, and every time, I think to myself, I really need to shoot that sign.

Sorry for the language but certainly not for the sentiment.

Bullhead City Arizona

The dust hadn't even settled on the store's final day Sunday and the crane was already on site to remove the sign this morning.

This, and hundreds of other store closures in the country are the result of a changing shopping atmosphere in America. On the low end, Walmart and Amazon are looking to dominate (decimate?) the competition.

Even shopping malls are not safe from the retail carnage: I read somewhere as many as 20% of shopping malls are at risk for closing in the next three years.

Experts for years have warned the country overbuilt retail space and the party would someday end. It looks like they were right.

... (and I'm the first to admit it), sharpness-wise, this shot is worthless.

But, one thousand words-wise, it is priceless -- in my personal humble opinion of course.

This is 21st century England's Lord Street in Liverpool city centre and, all I can add is - SHAME ! - on someone.

What seems so unusual here is that this young woman does not at all appear to be a "usual suspect". She has obviously been wearing make-up and has nail varnished finger nails. To me, that points to a fairly sudden (and recent) change in circumstances. God help her.

Bearded head - the story continues. A few days ago I found three plastic heads down a back alley 6 or 7 blocks from downtown. Today I came across one of them again. Now with added message on its forehead this bearded head now belongs to vagrant "Logan" who is using it to ask for money while panhandling downtown. I wonder where the other two heads have gone?

Street reaction to the UCP travel scandal. Premier Jason Kenney has announced the resignation of several prominent UCP members from their committee roles in response to their international travel over the holidays amidst the pandemic.

Kenney took to social media to announce he has accepted the resignation of Tracy Allard (Grande Prairie) from her role as municipal affairs minister and that Jamie Huckabay had, at the premier's request, stepped down from his role as chief of staff.

Allard has been criticized for travelling to Hawaii over the holidays while Huckabay's decision to visit the United Kingdom has been heavily scrutinized as their respective trips came while the province encouraged people to stay home.

Prince (1958-2016) was one of the most iconic musicians in music history. He defined the sound of the 1980s with such songs such as 'When Doves Cry', 'Kiss' and 'Purple Rain'.

Prince Rogers Nelson was born in 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His extensive career grew out of the music scene of his native Minneapolis, where he lived his entire life. Prince developed an interest in music as a young child and wrote his first song, 'Funk Machine', at the age of seven. He signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records at the age of 19. His debut album 'For You' (1978) and second LP Prince (1979) kicked off an incredibly prolific run of albums that included 'Dirty Mind' (1980), 'Controversy' (1981), '1999' (1982), 'Purple Rain' (1984), 'Around The World In A Day' (1985), 'Sign O The Times' (1987) and 'Batman' (1989), among others, throughout the 1980s at a clip of nearly one per year, evolving with each release. Prince gained critical success, prominently showcasing his explicit lyrics as well as his blending of funk, dance, and rock music. It was Prince's 'Purple Rain' (1984) - his first no. 1 album on the Billboard 200 - that cemented him as one of the greatest artists of his generation. It featured two US chart-topping singles, 'When Doves Cry' and 'Let's Go Crazy', as well as the number-two hit 'Purple Rain'. The album was released in conjunction with the film Purple Rain (Albert Magnoli, 1984), which was incredibly successful, grossed over $68 million at the box office in the United States and over $80 million worldwide, and won an Oscar. The album earned him two Grammys, and a victory over Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' for Favorite Pop/Rock Album at the 1985 American Music Awards.

In total, Prince would receive seven Grammy Awards from 32 nominations between 1984 and 2010. Along the way, he worked with several bands under a series of pseudonyms, including The Time, the New Power Generation and The Revolution, as both frontman and producer. Following the disbandment of The Revolution, Prince released the critically acclaimed double album 'Sign o' the Times' (1987). He released three more solo albums - 'Lovesexy' (1988), the Batman soundtrack (1989), and the Graffiti Bridge soundtrack (1990) - before debuting his New Power Generation backing band in 1991. In the midst of a contractual dispute with Warner Bros. in 1993, Prince changed his stage name to the unpronounceable symbol Logo. The hollow circle above downward arrow crossed with a curlicued horn-shaped symbol and then a short bar, known to fans as the "Love Symbol", and began releasing new albums at a faster rate in order to quickly meet his contract quota and release himself from further obligations to the record label. He released five records between 1994 and 1996 before he signed with Arista Records in 1998. He began referring to himself as "Prince" again in 2000 and subsequently released 16 albums, including 'Musicology' (2004), his most successful album of that decade. His final album, 'Hit n Run Phase Two', was first released on the Tidal streaming service in 2015. In 2016, the 57-year-old singer was found unresponsive in an elevator at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He died shortly after that. Prince was married twice. In 1990, he saw a 16-year-old dancer Mayte García standing outside of his tour bus, and said: "There's my future wife." García began working as one of his backup singers and dancers. They were married in 1996 when he was 37 and she was 22. They had a son named Amiir Nelson, who was born in 1996 and died a week later after suffering from Pfeiffer syndrome. The distress of losing a child and a subsequent miscarriage took a toll on the marriage, and the couple divorced in 2000. In 2001, Prince married Manuela Testolini. They divorced in 2006.

The sign for the touristy section of Weirs Beach, New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee. The Pop Art sign was erected in 1956 and stands today as an icon of the town.

Including both sides of the sign, the dots in the arrow are made up of 696 chaser bulbs and the words have over 200 feet of neon tubing.
