Crested Caracara

Arrived at Biddulph Grange and seen this lovely robin darting about.

It finally sat still so got the shot.

It remains a strange sight in the middle of winter: a group of flamingos to ankle height (yes, the ankles are at the height of the knees) in the cold water of the Grevelingenmeer. Tropical birds that strangely survive our winters in the Grevelingenmeer for Battenoord, a neighborhood on Goeree-Overflakkee near the villages Herkingen and Nieuwe-Tonge.

The colors of Hummingbirds and newly budding flowers are a sure sign that spring has sprung!

Pictured is a male Anna Hummingbird. The Anna Hummingbird was originally only found on the Pacific slope from Baja California to San Fransisco, but has since expanded it range to Vancouver, British Columbia, east to southern Arizona. The Anna has adapted so well to British Columbia that it stays all seasons. The Rufous Hummingbird visits during the spring for breeding and migrates back south in the late summer.

Photo of Hummingbird taken in Cobble Hill on south east Vancouver island, B.C., Canada. Taken on March 13/19 at 1:32pm

Taken in raw format at 1/1250's at f/8.0, at 400mm, iso 800, manual white balance. No cropping.

Note;

This image is a composite, as I added the Flowering Quince as it is just budding now and adds a little extra interest to the image.

It's a beautiful sim, and perfect for photos. They also allow temp rezzing if you join the Escape to Imagination group (free!), which makes it a super nice place for couples shots, and shots with props.

A cold winter day with no wind an beautiful light gives the port of Enkhuizen a beautiful sight.

A very frequent sight in our parks and woodlands, but always a pleasure to meet. Usually they are inquisitive, sometimes foraging for food on the ground. They are not fond of other robin intruders, but they reward us with some of the loveliest song.

Hawk perched across the street....

Happy Sunday morning all,

Every now and then one gets a rare and unexpected sighting on safari. This particular morning was one such occasion.

This is an image of a honey badger, a nocturnal animal which is very rarely seen during daylight hours. It was a first for me and a first for our guide as well. We came across a den and had the pleasure of actually seeing two of them. The one featured here was the active one, running back and forth in a repetitive pattern between a point in the distance and the den.

Getting this image required figuring out the behavioural pattern and getting as low down in the vehicle as possible. Doing these things allowed one to be able to enter the world of this fascinating and rarely seen animal.

Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)

While doing dishes I glanced out the window and saw several Wild Turkey flying down a slope towards my property. Upon landing they starting running towards the dry creek. I was confused by this behavior until I saw a large brown blur out of the corner of my eye. The blur was a Golden Eagle, and it exploded onto one of the Toms and the two tumbled out of view at the base of a tree. I grabbed my camera and carefully worked my way to the field. I got there in time to see the poor Tom thrashing around (you can see its foot in the bottom right of the image) while the Eagle was standing on it throttling the Turkey with its talons. I backed off to not stress the Eagle. The Eagle remained to eat for about an hour, that night the Coyotes paid a visit, and the next day the Turkey Vultures finished the clean up.

My first sight of the snow capped mountains in Montana. I did a little extra processing on this just because it felt right.

Thanks for looking!
