This waterfall is well known as the back sight waterfall.
The water is too much and powerful back sight can be enjoyed.

Continuing this brief series of cool sights I saw on a single morning outing to Grasslands, the park at my doorstep. These two Moose with their calves were a surprise; I tend to see moose more often in fall and winter. And last year there was considerable noise and commotion as contractors built a new bridge across the Frenchman River - resulting in many wildlife species, including moose, steering clear of the area until things settled down.
But.. they're ba-ack!
I'm so happy. They add an extra touch of wildness to the prairie landscape. Twenty-four years ago, when I first spent some extended time hanging out in this place, moose were a rare sighting. In the interim, they have arrived to occupy the valley, and other prairie locations, too; biologists are not sure why.
My theory? They find ample food and shelter here, where there are no natural predators, no hunting, and an abundance of peace and quiet. Essentially these are the same reasons I moved here full time in 2011. I'd like to think I'm smarter than the average moose. But maybe I'm not.

Floydd decided to come into the livingroom this morning for a visit.
He settled in on the rug in the middle of the floor, sphinx style, and watched the kittens darting all over and playing with one another.
Initially they didn't seem to notice him, but at some point Doug realized there was another real, live cat on the scene and went into full blown Halloween kitty mode!
He puffed up and danced in front of Floydd, posturing and growling and acting like a complete goofball.
Floydd just passively watched the show until Doug got bold enough to come in for a nose sniff. Floydd emitted a low growl, which made Doug back pedal into the wall.
Then Floydd stood up and went to the door and looked at me like "Open please? I've seen all I want to see here!", and went off to find a quieter spot to hang out.
Unbelievably there were /are 9 engineers trains heading East through Teignmouth and Dawlish today. It was in connection with a major engineering project in the Plymouth area. In addition to the bonus services there was a total block situation along the sea wall, this meant that the trains crawled along this stretch of line at 5 mph, the trains could be in line of sight of each other with no signalling knowing they could come to a stop, even in the tunnels. At one point we had two trains on the same track on the sea wall at Dawlish within sight of each other.
66074 eeks its way along the wall with old track forming the 1031 from Hemerdon to Westbury, 70801 had not long disappeared around the corner at Langstone Cliff.
Plenty of walkers along the sea wall burning off the roast spuds. I think everyone of them asked myself and a few other fellow phottwers what was occurring.
One more frame of this scene, this one zoomed in on the two unique trailing units because it is doubtful this will ever be repeated!
In a surprising turn of events the CSXT Geometry train returned to the MBTA for several days of testing. The purpose of this was to run the CSXT train in a consist with the MBTA's own newly built revenue GEO cars, the MBTA 533 and 534. These rebuilt MBB coaches were outfitted with data collection instrumentation from Ensco and the Keolis engineering team wanted to run them together with a piece of control equipment so they all collect the same data at the same time to be compared and validated. The train consisted of F40PH-3C 1070 bracketing cab car 1706, the two MBTA GEO cars, CSXT's three car train of 994366 (Geometry/theater car TGC3), 994365 (support car Hocking Valley), and 994369 (crew car Grand Rapids) with its assigned one of a kind unit, CSXT 9969, an ex MARC GP40WH-2. All of that was bracketed on the other end by MBTA 1130, a rebuilt GP40MC dressed in its one of a kind 'heritage' colors colloquially known to fans as the 'easter egg scheme' which mimics the paint job worn by the original F40PHs in the 1970s and early 1980s as well as some of the FP10s. This was the second of six (so far!) 'heritage' schemes designed to pay homage to the MBTA commuter rail system's early years and its legacy predecessors.
The Keolis north side work train crew is on board the 1070 as they head east toward Rockport over the causeway at MP 25.3 on the Gloucester Branch which dates from 1847 when constructed by the Eastern Railroad. They are crossing the double track thru girder bascule drawbridge built by the Boston and Maine in 1944 which provides access to Manchester's inner harbor.
Rising at right can be seen the white steeple of the First Congregational Church which dates from 1809, and is the fourth meeting house...with the first having been built way back in 1656!

During a surprisingly late peak in the Buchanan area, NS 975 eases north over Natural Bridge. EN Glesnar gets down to about walking speed so that the hoard of railfans can all get their shots. Even though the sun had been down for about a minute, the colors still stood out beautifully.
Such a topsy turvey winter! We had a brief snowfall yesterday, but it is already quickly disappearing with the sunny blue skies today. We'll be back up in the 60's tomorrow. The mountains are getting buried in snow though, and that's the important thing for water.
The end of the trip is in sight as CT488 trundles along the steep mountainside leading to the top of Cumbres Pass.

A rare sight around this area (Bearsden) - a number 60A bus! Taking my life in my hands standing in the central reservation of Maryhill Road though I once did similar on the Champs Elysee. Not much difference.

Winter pink skies, freezing cold and snow-covered (birch) trees... And Nature acting as a balm on me.
I made my first visit to Hart-Miller Island State Park (Maryland) yesterday, joining a group from the DC Bird Alliance. The 1100-acre island near Baltimore is a premium birding destination, over 70 species yesterday ..... but it's not the best place for photography as most species were observed from great distances.
The highlight of my outing was spotting this Coyote. I wonder how it made it to the island, the nearest land is about 3/4 mile?

Another photo of the beautiful female leopard that ran alongside the road as we were driving along. We stopped the car and she came up beside the car and hid behind a bush and began watching some Impala on the opposite side. They spotted her and she decided to just sit and wait. There were no other cars around for quite a while, so a wonderful sighting where we had her to ourselves for photos.
Nobbys Head in Newcastle, NSW, was first sighted by a European, Captain James Cook on 10th May 1770. A pier which took 38 years to construct by convict labour joined this island to the mainland. A lighthouse is located on the headland. Today there is a popular walkway up to Nobbys Head. It lies at the entrance of Newcastle Harbour.
