Shell ashtray at Market Café, 17 Open Market, Brighton.

I made this felt hat for a friend, but I almost kept it for myself. It is black fur felt with an upholstery trim band in shades of ivory, taupe and black. Two carved shell buttons adorn the back of this romantic hat.

Found on a beach near Mulege, Baja California Sur.

I like the simplicity of this shot but what I like to call attention to is the fact that the shell is about the size of my littlest fingernail and my older, 2.0 megapixel Nikon rendered even the tiny grains of sand in sharp detail.

Inside Margate's Shell Grotto

Margate's Shell Grotto was discovered in 1835, although its actual age and origin is unknown.

The grotto is a 70ft passageway ending at the Altar Room, a small rectangular chamber 15 by 20ft.

The grotto gets its name from the 4.6m shells that decorate the interior with geometric patterns and stylised imagery.
