I found this shell while walking on St. Thomas, USVI right before I slipped into the edge of the water and poked my foot on a sea urchin. It hurt so bad I thought I would see a giant pool of blood in the water. At first I thought I cut my foot but it also felt like I was getting stung by bees at the same time. Anyway I stopped and looked at my foot and saw five dots and then I looked in the water and figured it out. For this shot I put the shell on top of a LED flashlight. It is funny to see the purple in the shell with the light.
as he finds the shells in the sensory bin, T can match them to their outlines on this card. this not only adds to the fun/challenge, but also indicates when he has found them all. it was easy to simply trace the shells in pencil then go back over with a sharpie.

Much of the ground around the Lower 9th (especially near the levee breach) is covered in a fine layer of shells and detritus.
