Here I was, driving along a road to basically nowhere by the Kent coast and I find this artwork, which would be seen by relatively few people.
But it is a this spot for a reason, for these are the Short brothers, and it's here on the Isle of Sheppy where their company built the first 'heavier than air' aeroplanes in Britain. This was 1909. These consisted of six licence-buit Wright Flyers and their own Short No.2 biplane.
This lovely artwork depicting Horace, Eustance and Oswald was unveiled in 2013. Sculpted by Barbara Street.

Kansas City area.
December 1-13, 2011
Depart Kansas City Thursday, December 1, heading to the south rim of the
Grand Canyon via Colorado. Tentative schedule follows:
December 1-2, travel to the Grand Canyon via Colorado.
December 3-4, Grand Canyon, South Rim
December 5, Sedona, Arizona
December 6, travel to Yosemite
December 7-9, Yosemite
December 10-11, Monterey Bay, Big Sur
December 12-13, return to Kansas City via, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado
The fee includes the use of reallyclassglass.com professional Nikkor super
telephoto lenses and Really Right Stuff, tripods and ball heads. Lenses
include the 600 mm F4.0, 400mm F2.8, 300mm F2.8 and 200mm F2.0
We will concentrate on always photographing during the golden hours
surrounding sunrise and sunset. Other photography time will concentrate on
the hours around those key times. We will post process images or travel
during the other hours.
Workshop leaders will assist in all phases of photography to include lens
selection, pre visualizing the image, filters and aperture and shutter speed
selection. Leaders are familiar with Adobe Lightroom 3 and Adobe Photoshop
but do not consider themselves experts. Little time will be devoted to
classroom instruction in post processing.
Participants may choose to ride in a comfortable 15 passenger van from KC or
fly to a destination and we will arrange for a pickup in Arizona or
California.
Destination Workshop Investment: $1,989.00. The fee does not include food
or lodging. Lodging choices during the trip will be national motel chains
such as Super 8, Hampton Inn, Drury Inn, and Comfort Inns. Doubling up is
encouraged to save money.
Deposit: A non refundable deposit of $400.00 is required to hold your spot.
The fee, though not refundable, can be used toward a future destination
workshop should a family emergency cause you to cancel. The deposit is due
by October 15 and the balance will be deducted from your credit card on
November 30.
All participants are required to sign a release of liability statement.
Local guides: Reallyclassglass.com feels it is important to maximize time
photographing and not in searching for the best vantage points. Whenever
financially prudent we will hire local photo guides familiar with the
locations. Mark G, who works for Really Right Stuff, will guide us in
Monterey and Big Sur. We are currently searching for guides for Yosemite and
the Grand Canyon.
Maximum participants, 10, and the minimum for the trip is 3.

Destination workshop location highlights.
The Grand Canyon of the Colorado River is 200 miles long, a mile deep and
from 5-15 miles across. The north rim is closed during the winter season so
we will explore and photograph from the south side. We can descend into the
canyon on Bright Angel Trail for the full 17 mile round trip to the Colorado
River below or depending on time and agility of the participants...do only a
portion of the hike. But you really have not experienced the canyon until
you have walked in it.
Sedona....the red rock spires dominate the landscape and we will see why
this has become a favorite vacation and photographic destination. We'll
also schedule a trip to the ghost town of Jerome, population 403. Steep
streets switchback up the mountain to view the old copper mining town.
Monterey Bay and Big Sur......Carmel, Pebble Beach, Cannery Row, sea lions,
pelagic and shore birds, 17 mile drive scenery, Monterey Bay Aquarium...what
more needs to be said. The Weston Gallery in Carmel features the work of
Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, and prepares us for Yosemite. Mark G will
guide us to some of his favorite photographic sites along Big Sur which
stretches 90 miles south of Carmel from Point Lobos all the way to the
Hearst Castle with 5000 foot mountains rising out of the Pacific Ocean.
Winter in Yosemite...special, quiet....beautiful. Snow....amazingly
different images.

A picture of my travel to western australia.
Shell Beach is a beach in the Shark Bay region of Western Australia, 45 kilometres south-east of Denham.
It covers a 110 km long stretch of coast along the L'Haridon Bight. It is one of only two beaches in the world made entirely from shells.
The beach was named "Shell Beach" because of the great abundance of the shells of the cockle species Fragum erugatum. The seawater in the L`Haridon Bight has a high salinity due to both the geomorphology and local climate of the area. This high salinity has allowed the cockle to proliferate unchecked, since its natural predators have not adapted well to this environment.
The shells typically reach a depth of 7 to 10 metres. Over time, the shells have formed a limestone that is known as Coquina.
Before Shark Bay became a World Heritage Site, the limestone was mined and used for the construction of a number of buildings in the local town of Denham, Western Australia.

While out to catch the days sunset I caught this lone standing kayaker making his way back inland. The water was so flat this day, it was almost like glass. And although the marine layer moved in and stopped me from getting the sunset shot. It gave off a gorgeous blue light.

Dinosaurs at Dinosaur Caves Park in Shell Beach/Pismo Beach. This park has a playground with concrete marine animals this dinosaur and some dinosaur eggs. I found the plastic plesiosaur toy at a thrift store in Morro Bay and had to take her to this park.
Nice clouds close the sunset at my fav Shell Beach location. Five bracketed shots tonemapped in Photomatix.
A composite result of 15 shots using Photomatix HDr and CS5 layers to control depth of field. Three sets of five bracketed shots, each set of five with a different focal point. The 3 HDr renderings were then loaded into CS5 as layers using the auto align and then auto blend settings with hopefully resulting in good focus throughout the seascapes depth of field
Well it’s been a while since I’ve used the autobracket function on my camera (or overcooked the crap out of an image)—my work colleagues would be proud! The light hasn’t warranted it in a while around here and it’s no secret I’m obsessed with filters these days. My buddy and I took the looooooong walk from my house to this beach (1 block) and had the feeling the sky was going to blow up through the breaking marine layer—what a short treat this was! We had about 5 minutes to take advantage of this so I bracketed away.

Shells and fragments of them make up this beach on Shell Key across the channel from Pass-A-Grille, Florida. Shell Key is a beautiful, natural, hotel and road free, barrier Island that is protected as a County Nature preserve.

Formed from billions of tiny shells, the aptly named Shell Beach is located in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area.
I'm just adding a closeup shot of the shell beach at Coral Beach on Skye. Although there are shells from sea snails and other shellfish, most of the "shells" here are the bleached skeletons of coralline algae from the nearby reef. These wash up onto the beach and are broken and polished by the surf and by the strong winds that blow across Loch Dunvegan tumbling them smooth.

I got destroyed by these waves a couple months back. I think this is why my 16-35 had to go in for a tune-up--a couple sets later I got knocked back and the gear took a bit of a crash. Walked home soaked. At least it was comedy for all the people watching the sunset at the end of my block in Pismo Beach, California.

I've never seen so many Pelicans in the Peregrine Falcons' kitchen. Where did they all come from? Where are the Rock Pigeons? All gobbled up? And why are the Pelicans threatening the Oystercatchers? Anyone have any answers?

Got some nice light here in a secret small cove in the bosom of Shell Beach as the sun hung low over the pacific. The tide was rushing in and the movement around these broken rocks made for some designs at an exposure of just under a second. Hit "L" to view this on black with a border around it. :)

A shot a couple years in the making. First took this compostion in 2009 when we had a negative tide. Those of you that have explored the beaches from Spyglass to the Palisades may know of its location. This is a five composite HDR shot @ f/ 16, with the old D40 from Nikon. Super excited about this one! :D

Shell beach si trova nella World Heritage Area di Shark Bay (Western Australia) ed e' una delle due sole spiagge al mondo fatta INTERAMENTE da conchiglie... un po' scomoda per camminarci a piedi nudi ma... un posto magnifico
I had to work in our San Luis Obispo office for a few days, so I stayed through the weekend and took advantage of the beautiful scenery up there. This shot is from Pismo beach, just around the corner. They have some really nice rock formations and stacks along the coast. Not much for sky, but at least it wasn't fogged in!

This beautiful beach is composed of shells, from fine grains of shell to complete shells, in the dunes at the back of the beach one can see clear layers showing the fine sand, then almost complete shells, looks stunning when its wet!
