I applied a shellac finish to this clock in the Spring of 2006. On July 9, 2009 I sanded the finish with no. 400 wet/dry sandpaper plus mineral oil mounted on a rubber sanding block, then buffed with no. 0000 extra-fine steel wool, followed by Turtlewax white automotive polishing compound, then finally applied Johnson's paste wax. Notice that the finish is much smoother and even than photos taken of the same clock in 2006.
First time using de-waxed shellac on my cloth bar tape. Because it provides a barrier against the elements, I'm hoping for better color longevity in addition to improved tape integrity.
The tape on the upper portion of the bars up to and including the lever clamp area is double-thickness. But only in part, as the first layer had worn away to bare aluminum in a couple large spots!
I believe the shellac will solve that problem. Feels nice: good grip and good feedback. Tested it out on a 45 mile ride around Lake Sammamish - the second layer was particularly appreciated on the climbs.
I have new hair. I am also a total fucking poseur but that's by the by. The main part of my hair was cut by my Teenage-ex-hairdresser-sister who threw a pair of GHD Hair Straighteners after the deed was done, and the fringe was cut at ATP for the princely sum of three squid. Plus I sat next to the drummer from Shellac whilst it was being chopped. He is a dude I'm sure you'll be thrilled to hear.
SHELLAC - Live @ Koko's, London 07.
Todd Trainer looks like Noel Fielding's drug-addled older brother. he drums like a man posessed though.

this is probably my favourite photo from this ATP. even after watching Shellac twice and looking through all my photos of Todd Trainer, I still didn't realise that he holds his drum sticks backwards.
This bike now has a wheelset of its own including my first wheel build on the front. I am trying out a Brooks team pro and installed Berthoud fenders. First ride to work today with the new stuff went well.
