I snapped up this beautiful Japanese puzzle recently in a charity shop for only £1.50! Since then I've tried to find out more about the brand, but with little success, other than discovering they seem to have gone out of production. Such a shame, because the quality is outstanding: nicely thick, tight-fitting pieces with no sheen - a blessing when working in artificial light. The only drawback was that most of the pieces were of one shape, which slowed me down considerably when it came to completing the panels to either side of the main image.
A little about the image: the actual title is 'Woman of the Kerofune-ya' by modern Japanese artist and poet Takehisa Yumeji (1884-1934).

I was inspired by one of my children's drawing books. I drew this first in pencil then traced over with black gel pen. I used Prisma pencils and Gamsol for the coloring. The birds are HA 4749-4752 Decorative Bird set. Added stitching, grommets, string, and straw. Popped out the birds, tongue of shoe, porch roof, and chimney top.
Pale brown mannequin head in a store window, with a futuristic inset v shape somewhat alien like instead of the usual facial features. The light is coming from the left side, making the right one shaded. Also on the left side there is another dummy head with dark brown hair.
