Like most people I make resolutions every New Years which I hope to keep. Every year I resolve to get myself into better shape with a healthy diet and exercise routine. I usually stick with it for the first couple of months and see some results but eventually I go back to the unhealthy habits. Sure, I can blame all sorts of reasons why I fail and make up excuses such as I have no time to exercise, buying healthy foods is too expensive, blah, blah, blah but the reality is I have no one to blame but myself. In all fairness, sitting at my old desk job for the last three years did not work in my favor and so my goal is to lose the 25 lbs I have gained over these past three years. I have already been back to using my treadmill and once the days are nicer and the snow has mostly disappeared I plan on getting outside and back to my running routine. We all know that reaching our goals do not happen overnight (I wish they would!!!) We have to work hard in order to achieve those goals. You can accomplish anything you to want if you try hard enough. It just takes one step at a time. :)

Tonight I am planning on attending a free Zumba class to see what it is like. I have never tried it before and I am excited it is being offered here in my small town. If they have enough interest in it they will then offer it as a regular class. I am hoping it goes well. :)

One of the male had a jagged crown so to speak... likely same bird as per photo doc.d at Bazan Bay other year(s)

The other typical smooth crown

Oddly enough ,Hybrid had a modified Jagged crown...makes one wonder ... but sources say Head pattern takes after Male of the hybrid...so Hybrid should have a AMWI father in that case...

Dunno what to think here really

But with so many EUWI in our area there is quite likely quite a few generational back crosses around to potentially "muddy the water" of what a "baseline " AMWI is for our area.

So in emergent wigeon one sees the "Jagged or notchedy ' type crown shape but not so much with adult birds.

Part of the go forward for me is to see if i can document such head shapes in adult males whether AMWI or EUWI.

Most flocks one can see a tendency towards this but i don't recall seeing it this pronounced and obvious in an adult bird before or since this (presumed) individual

New Shape from Winter Bear MP

This shape was made using Genus Strongface W001, so it may look extremely different on other heads.

This prompt unintentionally made me channel my younger self, finding ideas and inspiration through silly doodles. The captions were taken a bit literally, which could be either a positive or a negative aspect of the piece depending on how you see it.

Entrepotdok 09/12/2019 18h44

The old crane on the Entrepotdok next to the warehouses transformed into appartments is used for the 2019/2020 edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival. Changing light shapes every time. Perhaps one of the highlights of this 8th edition.

Amsterdam Light Festival

Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual light art festival in Amsterdam. Artists, architects and (light) designers from all over the world bring their light artworks and installations alive during the festival every winter.

The theme of edition #8 is DISRUPT!. In line with the theme 'DISRUPT!', the festival has chosen a completely new route for the first time: Oosterdok, Oudeschans, Amstel, Nieuwe Keizersgracht, Plantage Muidergracht, Entrepotdok.

From 28 November 2019 to 19 January 2020 Amsterdam was again the stage for international light art.

TBETWEEN THE LINES

Artist: Har Hollands (NL, 1956)

A mysterious red glow moves sporadically through the operator’s cabin of the old crane on the Entrepot dock, located next to the old warehouse complex. Would someone be working there? And if so, with what?

Perhaps with managing Har Hollands’ light lines, which mimic the construction of the crane’s arm. The soft yellow lines light up alternatingly and together form a variety of spatial patterns. They disrupt the structure of the crane as we know it in a surprising way, and suddenly transform the old industrial monument into a work of light art.

The crane, which dates back to 1951, now stands unused on the docks, but that wasn’t always the case. Until the 1970s, like several other cranes in the area, it was used to lift goods in and out of ships, which were then transported by carts or trolleys. These goods were stored in one of the many warehouses along the docks, the first of which were built in the early 18th century. After a long period of decline, the warehouses started to be converted into homes in the 1980s, and only the cranes bear witness to the area’s past.

With Between the Lines Holland demonstrates that the crane can be much more than a retired machine. For Hollands, elements and rhythms in urban constructions, which often go unnoticed in our day to day, form the basis of a magical play of light. The city comes to life in a new way in ‘the domain of the fantasy’, as Hollands beautifully describes the night.
