Shadow on Midtown business

...shadows...

This was my first test applying the same technique as the tessellation, but for an organic subject. The image is created the same way: by layering sheets of translucent paper each with holes of appropriate size and shape cut out to let light through. There are four layers of paper involved here, which can create four levels of shadow depth.

The image, by the way, is a from a photograph of artist Cody Swanson's sculpture "Eve": www.artrenewal.org/articles/2006/Scholarship/large/CodySw...

Rock detail at Porth Joke.

Taken using a Sony Cybershot DSC-T77. The sunlight was quite bright in my spare bedroom. Gave me an idea to play with a few shadows.

I've never seen the shadow of that building's canopy before. Weird.

Shadow of rails and flags

This is a shop that restores antique automobiles. It sits by a canal, in the back of a shopping center's parking lot. The shadow belongs to an ornamental tower on the corner of the shopping center.

A shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object. It occupies all of the space behind an opaque object with light in front of it. The cross section of a shadow is a two-dimensional silhouette, or reverse projection of the object blocking the light. The sun causes many objects to have shadows and at certain times of the day, when the sun is at certain heights, the length of shadows change.

Shadow darner, Aeshna umbrosa, male.

Relatively small blue spots on the abdomen, culminating in no blue at all on the last segment S10, locally identify this as a shadow darner. The paddle-shaped cerci (copulatory appendages at the end of the abdomen, aka claspers) say male. Additional, non-definitive ID points: lateral thoracic stripes shading from blue-green to yellow-green; thin horizontal suture across the face. Citation: Dragonflies and Damselflies of the West/Dennis Paulson.

His claspers are clasping something brown and dried-up looking; they’re used to hold the female during copulation, but that doesn’t look female. So what is it?

Springbrook Trail, Renton, Washington State, October 7, 2021.

the sun reflected off of the neighbor's car made this weird stairwell shadow pattern where there is usually very little light

Coincidently shot my wife's shadow while watching my son playing at the playground ;-).

Just want to share here.

For the shadow land.

Trying to make a series of shadow on architecture that show a flat facade but the shadows show the structure.

Using the shadows and a single Vivitar 283HV flash from the left of the model, improving the composition with the depth of field and moving around until the background looks just colorful enough creates an interesting look. There was so much color in the background, I couldn't resist. Although her dress is very colorful, it's muted and masked by the shadows
