I like the shadow cast here by my felted wool stones. The mossy green color and worn greyed wood are two of my most favorite things.
find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides.

captured on the streets of munich, this photo titled "shadows of lamps" plays with the duality of light and shadow. the old lanterns on the facade cast striking shadows on the wall, creating an intriguing pattern of light and dark. the row of lamps and their shadows adds a sense of order and symmetry to the scene, while the texture of the wall and sidewalk enriches the composition. this image captures the simple beauty of everyday life, showing how small details in the urban landscape can be artfully and humorously presented.
One Main Place is a mixed-use skyscraper hotel and office building at 1201 Main Street in Dallas, Texas. The shadows remind me of a giant shadow box and form interesting patterns. This is two shots, merged with Photoshop. Minimal enhancements: just to bring out detail of the concrete and enhance contrast to highlight the patterns of the shadows.

This is a kind of a vision - twilight and shadow of the falling night with its ancient mysteries strange and hostile to human kind. I'm going to bed. Good night, see you tomorrow.

Shadow became sick this weekend. She was taken to the vet this morning and as he was trying to diagnose the problem, she passed away. According to the vet it was congestive heart failure. She was a great dog, always excited to see you and eager for a good belly rub. She will definitely be missed.
52 Weeks 2012 - Week 4 - Theme: Shadows
Wasn't sure on what to shoot for this theme. By the time I get home it usually gets dark and I have to resort to artificial light. I was walking around the house trying to find my subject and decided to give it a try with a plant that usually sits on the mantle in our living room. I've put a piece of seamless white paper on the floor, got 2 SB-600 @1/4 power shooting up into a ceiling to get somewhat even light (I still see some spots where white should've been washed out more) on the paper. Raised SB-800 @ full power on a stand as main light. Climbed on a ladder and shot a few frames while using live view to compose. I tried to make shadow my main subject and bring up some dimensionality (is this the right word?) with it, while reducing perception of the depth of the actual plant in the image. I'm not even sure that last sentence makes any sense.

Where there is plenty of light there will be much shadow too
Wo viel Licht ist, ist auch viel Schatten.

I wanted to call this 'a shady couple', but it's for the TWO (not three) Word Wednesday group….
Fooling around at the shores of Lake Leman with my husband. We were standing on a little stone bridge, separating the lake from a privately owned boat bay. The crazy colours come from the sun shining into a shallow bay containing pebbles, an engraved sign in the ground (couldn't make out what it was, hence the shadow play following my bending over….), reflections of flowering shrubs clinging to the wall, two buoys, lots of water weeds, some reflections of iron rails, swimming pollen….. but no boat!

This ended up being half shadow and half reflection. But it is definitely a long one. I am only 5'2", and this shadow makes me about 11' tall.
