Gulls were running around on the canvas awnings shading the cafeteria at Melbourne Zoo. I thought the effect from the shadowing was really cool
When we were waiting for Felix to make an appearance, we came to this forest to walk everyday. We took different trails, exploring many nooks and crannies - the whole time we would talk to the baby and tell him it was cool to come out now, everyone was waiting for him, and that we couldn't wait to bring him back here. Well, now we can. It was amazing to go back with him and remember those last few days before he was born.

Overflow over ice on Mill Creek during a cold snap. The play between the shadows of the trees and their reflections in the thin layer of water really caught my eye.
Partial eclipse of the Moon by the Earth on New Years Eve lasted about an hour, not very exciting really.................

Here is a 5th grader standing with me amazed that I could take a picture of her shadow for some reason. I don't think she had ever really looked down at the shadows on the playground at recess time. Also, this picture makes me sad because the shadows are so long and this shot was taken about noon. It gets dark so early!!
Random Fact: This 5th grader has been hanging around me at recess lately.
This old spray can had leaked deep shadow on the floor, but the sun from the missing door caught it hiding there.
Shadows and light at play on the balcony of Wilson Creek Winery. We had a very enjoyable moment yesterday when, thanks to Jeff and Tom, had an opportunity to meet and talk with Rosie Wilson, the founder of Wilson Creek, as she was tending her rose bushes planted around the winery's Creekside Grill. She was so gracious, giving us the history of the winery, and also took group photos with us. Tom has a beautiful portrait of her here:
The bird's shadow adds the perfect message to this photograph of a famous and well photographed church.
Shapes created by the shadows seen when sunlight shines through a curtain onto a wall and stairwy. But I want a more exciting / expressive name for the image. Does anyone have any ideas ???

i had a dilemma here, as you can see if you look at the large version. the chewed up leaf is amazing, with a shadow of its own, but i couldn't ignore the shadows behind the gate, so i think i ended up with a composition which doesn't quite do justice to either. too much to see, once again!
