This shot was taken by me when I was serving on HMS Illustrious in Oct 1984. Ark Royal is at sea here for the very first time on Contractors Sea Trials. I was a Chef in the Main Galley on sink duty, and when the Officer of the Watch announced on the tannoy that we were going to steam past our new sister for the first time, I legged it up top with my camera and got a snap. The only problem I had was that we were a bit too close for me to get the whole ship in one pic, so I had to take one shot of two thirds of the ship on one frame, and the rest of her on the next! Wonders of modern technology and all that, I managed to join them up on my PC, hope it looks ok!!!
County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich (with scissors ) and County Li-brarian Margaret Donnellan Todd (far left) cut the ribbon November 4 for the new County of Los Angeles Public Library’s Antelope Valley bookmobile which will provide service to rural and remote areas of northern Los Angeles County. The bookmobile is equipped with a satellite dish for online access to the internet and will provide public computer workstations and wireless internet access for laptop users.
I am so excited about this set. A friend of mine, David Clifton, whom I met about a month ago at the retreat I was on, puts on a dinner for all the homeless people in Denver. He and his volunteers can serve between 5,000 and 10,000 people on this day alone. He has been doing missions for many years and has been to 51 countries. When he asked me to photograph this event for him I was so honored. I wanted to do more, serve people food, take them to their seats, etc.... But I wanted to capture some important pictures too, as I believe these people are very special. I tried to talk to as many of them as I could, and I hope they felt that I cared about them.
Locally-brewed Reudnitzer Pils - not bad, although I prefer dark beers or wheat beers, for which you have to look a bit further afield.
Served up at Waldplatz, not far from the Zentralstadion in Leipzig, just after the Iran-Angola match.

It's called "dump cake" because you just dump everything in, stir, and bake.
1 box cake mix
29 oz canned fruit
1 egg
2 Tbsp ground cinnamon
2 Tbsp Splenda blend
1 second spray Pam
Mix egg, cake mix (any type), and canned fruit (any type) in a mixing bowl.
Spray 9x13 pan with cooking spray. Pour mixture into pan. Sprinkle cinnamon and Splenda over the top.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
Pictured is a butter pecan cake mix with peaches. Other delightful flavor combos include:
cherries with chocolate cake
apples with white cake
pineapples with strawberry cake
The possibilities are endless!
It's also amazing with some RediWhip or CoolWhip on top.
