The 260-strong engineering contingent were the first to be deployed as part of the Regional Protection Force, mandated by the UN Security Council. In the past year, they have carried out a number of major reconstruction projects over the past year, rehabilitating roads, building bases, servicing water points and even repairing football grounds for young sports fans in Juba. At a ceremony in the capital Juba today, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General acknowledged their professionalism, integrity and dedication to duty. The contingent also remembered the tragic loss of their fellow fallen peacekeeper Lieutenant Commander Ashraf Siddiqui who was killed by armed gunmen while accompanying a humanitarian convoy in June.

A combination taproom and coffee shop is coming to Howard Street less than a year after the street lost its cafe and brewery.
Rogers Park Taproom and Coffeehouse is opening this spring at 1615 W. Howard St. It is taking over the longtime home of Sol Cafe, which closed over the summer after 10 years in business.
The bar-cafe is from Neighborhood Taprooms group, which includes Lakeview Taproom and Coffeehouse, Lincoln Square Taproom and Uptown Taproom.

Sol Cafe, a Far North Side coffee shop that sought to end a “cafe desert” on Howard Street, is closing this weekend.
Sol Cafe, 1615 W. Howard St., will close Sunday after more than 10 years in operation, co-founder Mars Terrazas confirmed.
The cafe has been a stalwart business in a Howard Street corridor that has been battered by the pandemic and issues of crime and violence. Sol Cafe also struggled with those issues, Terrazas said.
