There are between 1.5 and 2 million images uploaded here to Flickr every day. Then there is Instagram, 500px, and Imgur to name but a few more sites hosting pictures. And there are many other places to view the photogrpahs taken in their millions every day.

I'm sure that I am not the only one who has wondered what, if any, significance my pictures have in the great scheme of photographic life, and felt at times that there is nothing new in photography, and that I am doing no more than reinventing the wheel with my own efforts.. Despite that, I have striven to try and produce at least a few original images for my Photostream, and spent many hours trying to think up new and original ideas.

The idea behind this image is to take a fairly ordinary scene, but just focus on a segment of it, not in the way of a close up or macro, but showing a larger view of that scene.

Thinking about it, a photograph is simply a segment of time, captured in an image, and I wondered if it would further enhance a photo by segmenting the space, as well as the time aspect.

So this image, and the others like it are the results of putting the idea into practice. And I am pleased enough with the results of this experiment to look out for more images like these. Perhaps it may even turn into a project. Of course, It is not a totally unique way of presenting an image, but it is the doing of it intentionally, that I have not seen before.

Thankfully, there’s nothing “buttoned-up” about these adorable Blowfish flats, save for a funky detail that brilliantly evokes our love for our favorite jeans. Luckily, with these you get all the comfort of the 1992 Gap classic fits with decidedly more style (and without holes).

Day 7

Boss Lake (Collegiate West 05) to random campsite (Segment 15)

Plans are meant to change, I reckon. (My original intent was to do the Collegiate Loop and end up back at Twin Lakes.) Day started off great albeit a bit chilly. Sun was out though. Hunt Lake was magnificent with great reflections. I suspect it would have been a colder night here than at Boss Lake. There appeared to be a thin layer of ice on the lake. Glad I stopped at Boss where morning temperature was approximately 42f.

The next lake was the last water source until Monarch Pass, 8.1 miles away. I stopped to camel up and maybe make some coffee. Threatening clouds were building just over the ridge, so I thought it best to get over the pass which was still over 1/2 mile away.

Well, I didn't make it. Tried umbrella but above treeline I've discovered that it is usually too windy. I had to put on poncho. Since I've been using poncho as rain fly for tent, it still had guy lines attached. Not easy to remove them under cold, extremely windy, rainy with some hail conditions. Although my fingers were nearly frozen with little dexterity, somehow I managed to get my poncho on.

Once at the top (12,472') I was mildly disappointed. I hoped the trail would descend quickly and get below treeline. It did not. It continued for miles on ridgeline and sidehill. No escape from the wind and rain just yet.

This is a photograph from the 17:00 - 19:00 segment of the first Edenderry Tri Club "Edenderry 5 Mile Challenge" which was held in Edenderry, Co. Offaly, Ireland on Saturday 27th September 2014 from 15:00 and continuing on until 15:00 on Sunday 28th September 2014. The event is partnered as a charity event and proceeds will go to support Edenderry Tri Club and our Charity Partners - Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, Little Wishes Edenderry and Edenderry Tidy Towns. Three members of the Edenderry Tri Club will complete the 5 mile route in relays for the continuous 24 hours. People are welcome to join in for one, two or as many loops as they wish. The loop is a 5 mile route starting and finishing in Edenderry St. Mary's Secondary School and following the famous Drumcooley 5 mile route which is well known to local runners and walkers. The route brings participants out 'the Tunnel Road' following 'The Bog Road' out to the Canal and then turning right and up the long hill of Drumcooley. After the decent the route makes its way back into the town and joins the Tullamore road and finishes back in the secondary school. Almost 400 people are expected to take part in the event with many runners using the event as an opportunity to get their final long runs completed before the Dublin marathon in October.

Amazed to see this (though of course it was cast in Sheffield). Can't help reflecting that the enemy's artillery, when captured, was long the definitive battle trophy, perhaps this is the last ever example. (While there is a considerable aesthetic difference between this and one of Louis XIV's ornate pieces stamped 'Ultima Ratio Regis' (the last argument of kings), it makes up for it in sheer scale. As a last argument, this didn't even get to first base, though.)
