"In 1885, U.S. Congressman William Morrow of San Francisco introduced a bill to appropriate $350,000 to buy a site in San Francisco on which to build a new courthouse and post office. It languished for two years but was finally passed in March, 1887. The Secretaty of the Treasury selected a three-man commission, which included San Francisco Postmaster W.C. Bryan, to find suitable property. When they reported $350,000 could not buy much, Congress eventually raised the allocation to $1,250,000. After considering two dozen sites, the commissioners opted to buy a big sandy lot at the corner of Seventh and Mission Streets. They ranked it second in desirability because of its distance from the central business district. The site was more than a mile from downtown in a working class neighborhood of Irish and German immigrants, warehouses and blacksmith shops. Unbeknown to federal officials at the time, an underground creek lay beneath the southwest corner. "Seventh and Mission was way out in the sticks, way out in the sand dunes," recalled Martin J. O'Donnell, a postal clerk at the turn of the century, "and lots of people thought it was too far from the center of things." The commissioners apparently did not. In December, 1891, the federal government signed an agreement to pay property owner LeRoy G. Harvey $1,040,000 in gold for the 142,625 square-foot lot. It was a controversial deal that triggered accusations of corruption and payoffs. But it went through nonetheless."

I see where I went wrong in aligning my segments. I needed a 1mm hole in the middle, not all meeting at a point!

This is the circumhorizontal arc that I saw as I left my place of work over lunch today. It was much more brilliant when I first exited the building, but by the time I'd retrieved my camera, this faded segment was all that was left. Still, its colors are outstandingly pure and beautiful.

This is a photograph from the 17:00 - 19:00 segment of the first Edenderry Tri Club "Edenderry 5 Mile Challenge" which was held in Edenderry, Co. Offaly, Ireland on Saturday 27th September 2014 from 15:00 and continuing on until 15:00 on Sunday 28th September 2014. The event is partnered as a charity event and proceeds will go to support Edenderry Tri Club and our Charity Partners - Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, Little Wishes Edenderry and Edenderry Tidy Towns. Three members of the Edenderry Tri Club will complete the 5 mile route in relays for the continuous 24 hours. People are welcome to join in for one, two or as many loops as they wish. The loop is a 5 mile route starting and finishing in Edenderry St. Mary's Secondary School and following the famous Drumcooley 5 mile route which is well known to local runners and walkers. The route brings participants out 'the Tunnel Road' following 'The Bog Road' out to the Canal and then turning right and up the long hill of Drumcooley. After the decent the route makes its way back into the town and joins the Tullamore road and finishes back in the secondary school. Almost 400 people are expected to take part in the event with many runners using the event as an opportunity to get their final long runs completed before the Dublin marathon in October.
After building the gatehouse, the grand hall, the keep, the barracks and the church with all of their nonsense this one was basically a cakewalk. just a rectangular building with stone foundation, a timber framed floor above and a roof with some dormers to top it of. With 12k bricks it's the smallest building segment in the castle. In terms of size it contends with the gatehouse for the smallest building, depends how you compare the two.

A segment of the Berlin wall with graffiti on it. I saw this at a local hotel and it reminded me of how empires rise and fall. Wars create empires but they also break them down. USSR fell apart as a result of the Afghanistan war. Time will only tell who the wars of today will bring down.
Mooresville, NC - If there was ever a time to put down some dominate numbers and come away with a couple of segment victories, this was the weekend. It was the Optima "Search for the Ultimate Street Car's" first double points event of the season and it worked out very well for Kyle Tucker and his Detroit Speed 1970 Camaro Test Car at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI. See all the pics here goo.gl/s8eWXN
As usual, the Detroit Speed sponsored Autocross and the Wilwood Speed Stop Challenge were the first segments Saturday morning and provided lots of action whether you were participating or if you were just hanging out in the pits amongst the crowd.
Kyle and the Detroit Speed 1970 Camaro were on point from the get go, laying down times hovering in the mid to high :13's until he put down his best time on his second to last run (:13.60) which was enough to claim the top spot and 50 points for the segment victory. Not to rest on his laurels, Kyle was also pushing hard on the autocross and ended up with 2nd place and another 44 points to add to his weekend collection. Detroit Speed dealer and good friend, Billy Utley took the top spot in the autocross driving his DSE "Equipped" 1972 Chevy Nova.
The road rally took place at the end of the day and took off from the speedway and ended at the Lingenfelter Design Collection in Brighton, MI. Thanks for their hospitality, great food, and beautiful cars to look at. It was, also, 5 minutes from Kyle and Stacy's house where Detroit Speed got its start. It was pretty neat to head back and see where it all started.
Sunday was more of the same from Kyle and the DSE 1970 Camaro Test Car. The Hot Lap Challenge gave the drivers a chance to really open up their cars with a 1.9 mile inside road course at Michigan. Kyle's first run of the day would have been good enough to capture first place and the full 50 points but he ended up besting that and put down a blistering 1:23.076 a few sessions later that no one was able to come close to.
Congratulations are in order for Mr. Billy Utley. Billy topped the GTV Class and was awarded his invitation to the season ending event in Las Vegas for the 2nd year in a row! Congrats Billy! We would also like to congratulate Bryan Johnson on his podium finish in the GT class and our very own Project Foreman, Chris Porter, on his podium finish in the GTV class.
Rick Hoback, driving his C5 Corvette, had good runs on the road course on Sunday. Unfortunately, due to another commitment, he could only attend on Sunday. Thanks Rick for flying the DSE flag proudly! Rick wasn't the only one flying the flag, DSE “Equipped" cars were out in full force and ran hard all weekend. If you have been following the Optima events in person or on social media, one thing you will notice is all the "63" images and decals around. The decal is for Todd Rumpke, our friend who drives the Snoopy C6 Corvette. He is in a difficult battle right now, and at the end of the day, we are all a family out there and would do anything to support a friend and fellow driver.
Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car Michigan Highlights:
• Kyle won the Speed Stop Challenge taking the maximum 50 points during this double points weekend
• Kyle claimed the top spot during the Sunday Hot Lap Challenge
• Kyle finished a close 2nd in the Detroit Speed Sponsored Autocross, finishing just behind Billy Utley.
• Dealer and close friend, Billy Utley, clinched his invite to the season ending event in Las Vegas with a 1st overall in the GTV class in his DSE "Equipped" 1972 Nova
It was another fun weekend full of friends and racing and we eagerly await the next Optima event as it is taking place in our back yard. We look forward to seeing everyone at Charlotte Motor Speedway July 25th - 26th for the next event in the Optima "Search for the Ultimate Street Car" series.
