EMD SD-70M-2 and SD-70 diesel electric locomotives switching in the Riverside, New Bern freight transfer yard
With heavy lake effect snow hammering the region, the loaded iron ore train U702 makes its way south on the Bessemer Subdivision behind a pair of Canadian National SD70M-2's. As the train rolls through Albion, Pennsylvania it gets on the main at the RX control point and passes the old Albion Mill complex on Canal Street.

NYS&W SD70M-2 #4066 leads the SU-99 for the first time since being repainted, with three other yellow-jacket EMDs trailing. The train runs through the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) siding in Maywood, NJ, due to the Southern Division Main being torn out for extraction of contaminated dirt.
A passenger special for CN's safety week crosses the Arcola High Bridge from Minnesota into Wisconsin, with cars provided by the Friends of the 261. The train had departed from New Brighton around noon on this day, and is seen here headed for Vancouver, BC. I'm not sure when the last time a passenger train of any sort (minus the RDC) ran across this line was, but I'm going to guess it wasn't anytime recently.
GMRC 263 heads west through the Town of Rockingham with VTR 263 leading. 431 is an EMD SD70M-2 built for the Florida East Coast Railway in 2006.
After being out of service and undergoing emergency repairs for the last month, Millrift Viaduct is now back in service, seen here as the SU99 crosses over the Delaware River into Pennsylvania. The normally nocturnal SU99/SU100 ran in daylight over the last two days to allow the contractors a chance to see a train safely cross the bridge.

Providence and Worcester's beauteous SD70M-2's lead a pair of NECR SD40's and a loaded unit ethanol train through the woods of eastern Connecticut on a rainy November morning. I'm almost certain the sand hoppers on the locomotives were empty by the time they reached Worcester. With the grades on the Willimantic Branch mixed with wet leaves and constant rain, the four six axle locomotives struggled the whole way.

La photo est prise dans ce magnifique paysage dominé par les montagnes Rocheuses. On peut également observer la rivière Athabasca à droite du train.

After waiting hours for a westbound I finally got one (#421 Toronto - Port Robinson) at 1050 when the good light was pretty much done. It was nice to get a set of EMDs, even if 8930 is a bit grubby.
CORP's Roseburg Hauler passes the Eugene Amtrak depot on its way into the yard. The eclectic power this train gets is really cool. It's also nice to hear the distinct P3 horns of the PW SD70M-2s from my room each night here. Reminds me of the SP. Idk how I can miss something that I didn't live to experience. Yes, the photo is grainy.
With two EMD SD70M-2s up front, the southbound Bessemer and Lake Erie ore train leans into the curve as they pass over Golden City Road in Saxonburg. Hoping to shoot the ore at SX North, I left Pittsburgh around 7:15 and made the hour drive to Saxonburg. Unfortunately when I arrived at the spot to walk in, I was greeted by a very dense forest. Not wanting to start my time in Pittsburgh by getting a tick bite (and by being a little bitch) I decided to go just north to the Golden City Road underpass to get them leaning into the curve. My timing was great, as 10 minutes after I was in position I heard the roar of the EMD 710s pulling the train upgrade. After getting the shot, I made a bee line to the Allegheny River Bridge hoping to drone them there. However, I got stuck behind a few people doing the speedlimit and watched helplessly as they rolled over the bridge as I pulled into the spot.
Canadian National SD70M-2 no. 8936 leads a westbound grain train (GBNLOP-19) down the UP Topeka Sub at mp 96 in its namesake city. This is at the west end of the double track, and from here, the train continues on its way towards Herington, and Optima, OK.
Of note with this consist (although not visible here) was the third engine, the CN no. 5261, which is an SD40-2W. It was rebuilt in Montreal in 2012 to serve as an LNG test bed, although it has since been reverted back to its standard configuration.
