Edmonton to Calgary freight A442 starts its journey by crossing the North Saskatchewan River on a cloudy but colorful fall afternoon. With an all GMD consist (SD70M-2 #8014M SD70i #5622 GP40-2W #9601) the train will soon swing south onto CN's Camrose Sub for the trip to Calgary
With two SD70M-2's on each end and 104 ore hoppers to load, the head and rear end of Canadian National's U702 meet as the train slowly makes its way around the loading loop at the dock in Conneaut, Ohio. The train crossing the bridge over Conneaut Creek, which is the only four track railroad swing bridge in the world, though the western track has been removed for an access road.

CN SD70M-2 8942 leads stack train Q120, as they break the foggy silence through the small university town of Sackville, New Brunswick. I'm glad I was able to salvage this shot. My camera isn't exactly known for killing it in low light situations.

A pair of NBSR's big green SD70M-2s have the southbound 910 well in hand as they roll into West Seboeis, heading home to Brownville. There's a noticeable dip in the track right ahead of the engine, indicative of some ongoing surfacing work taking place around the bridge over the West Seboeis Stream.
If you are out to see the daily Waterloo to Kirk Yard trains, you will notice a strong presence of SD70M-2's now on these trains. The past couple weeks it seems the CN has move a bunch of these units to these trains for captive service. Pairs, trios, and a 5-pack of solid EMD's have been seen alot in and out of Waterloo. A big departure from the constant supply of foreign power normally coming in and out of Iowa on these trains. Here a trio of 70's (2x1 DP'd) power this 8500 foot 338 out of Waterloo. Here the 137 car train gains speed east of Winthrop as cross Buffalo Creek on their way east towards Dubuque.

Once the ten thousand foot train clears, EMR 909, waiting in the siding across the river at Kirby, will open up, and deliver interchange to CSX behind where I'm standing.

On a late fall afternoon, the CN Bessemer local L518 climbs the grade out of Greenville, Pennsylvania with 7 locomotives at the head end and an empty ballast train in tow. Maine Northern's northbound 910 job is seen running alongside Dean Brook as they approach Cedar Lake, with a trio of green SD70M-2s leading empty chip cars. Generally speaking this part of the Millinocket Sub between Perkins and Brownville isn't very exciting, but I did note a few spots with potential going through on trains, such as this one. The drone helps emphasize the remoteness of the area, with only a single paved road, and a handful of dirt roads for miles.
With two SD70M-2s off of CN 322 leading a pair of GE units, CN 527 is approaching Taschereau Yard with a long train after working Pointe St-Charles Yard.
If You Dream Long Enough. Ending at once for all time the ongoing debate about its appearance, New York, Susquehanna, and Western Railway released SD70M-2 4064 (née-Norfolk Southern 2708, SD70M-2, 2/2006) in fresh corporate paint from its Butler, New Jersey yard on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. The design is very slightly different from the most recent incarnations and harkens back to the B40-8 era with the "Susquehanna" on the nose as well. The railroad has a few other recently purchased ex-NS units on its roster that may see new paint in the near future as well.

I went through some old memory cards last night and found some stuff I've never posted and gave them a re-edit. This one I was surprised at how well it came out after a light room edit of just a jpeg file.
Back in 2018 a power short Norfolk Southern was leasing power left and right, and of that leased power was I believe four Florida East Coast SD70M-2's. Here #104 leads loaded autorack train NS 272 east past control point Kumis on the Whitethorne district one early October morning.

The SD70M-2’s last stand on a class 1. CN and NS were the only class 1 takers of the model however NS retired and disposed of theirs recently. So CN is the last hold out and one of which is seen here on the point of an oil train strung across the expansive wooden trestle over the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa waiting its chance to enter Watco’s Alabama Southern yard before being routed to Hunt Oil in Tuscaloosa.
Back in 2011, EJ&E SD38-2s 672 and 66-something, plus a CN SD70M-2 shove a cut of cars into Markham Yard along CN's ex-IC main. This was when Markham was still in use as a loose-car classification yard, as opposed to handling only doublestacks and some reblocking as it does these days. For a few years on and off, EJ&E power seemed to be quite common on these Markham "pull-down" jobs.
