Three of Suzie Q's four SD70M-2s lead the Cortland Job back from Syracuse at Tully. These M-2s wear the NYSW scheme well and it was a real treat to catch a set of three.

Again, big thanks goes out for all the help. And that goes beyond just this trip but to other railfanning outings and misadventures. I can confidently say I wouldn't even have half of what I've shot without the help of others.

On an unusually humid and hazy late-September afternoon, CN's daily Chambord-Montréal manifest is grinding out of Charette with two horses pulling a heavy train of wood and aluminium products from Northern Quebec. Consist : CN 8908, CN 2595.

As dawn breaks, NYS&W WS-1 brings the SU-100 into MC Yard in Ridgefield Park, NJ, having just completed its night run from Binghamton. Former NS SD70M-2 #4064 leads, having been repainted a few weeks ago at the engine house in Butler.

A CN SD70M-2 leads UP Train MKCAS 14, likely the most-photographed freight train in Missouri that day, passing the Kirkwood Depot on the UP Jefferson City Sub.

Railfans were crowded around the line that morning in anticipation of the train behind this one, a Wimmer Inspection Special with the UP Centennial on the head end, the trip that unbeknownst to us would be its last through St. Louis.

Not for nothing in this case, it was 3 foreign units on the MKCAS, a train that usually drew garden variety UP power most of the time. Those CN SD70M-2's were basically unheard of here back then. This one was only about a year and a half old, but they'd spent a majority of their life so far north of the border in Canada. When they did get into the US, they didn't get off the CN much being pretty new. The Yahoo! Groups were buzzing about it.

I think at least a dozen people shot it at Kirkwood alone besides me. The KCS ACe’s didn’t wander off home rails much at that point either. Hiding in the middle was an NS Dash-9, but who cares? Those will be around forever, right?

The year is 2023, and some of the SD70M-2’s are back in service. Some have been sold off and others have been sitting in dead lines in various yards out of service since 2019. But with NS being power short, those remaining were reactivated. Here 2662 leads manifest NS 19M west through Montgomery tunnel. I last shot this unit in May of 2018. It’s nice seeing some of their older units coming back.

Having crested the 1518 ft summit of the Green Mountains about seven miles behind them, Vermont Railway train 263 is descending eastward on the Green Mountain Railroad's Bellows Falls Subdivision which dates from 1849 when the mainline from Bellows Falls to Burlington opened for business. Leading the way past the historic Rutland Railroad station here at about MP B27 is SD70M-2 431 built in December 2006 for the Florida East Coast, and one of only two six axle units on the roster. She is trailed by three geeps and thirty cars destined for Riverside Yard in Rockingham.

I had a totally different shot in mind here, but after a friend pulled up and we got to chatting, the train managed to sneak up on us! CN 8952 leads train M347 across the Magnolia Trestle at Gainford Alberta

CSX K614 creeps over the Conrail Hack Lift Bridge in Kearny, NJ on July 26, 2021. This would be the last photographable location of this train for the day, as the train later tied down in South Kearny Yard overnight.

Spooky season is nearly upon us, and things are starting to get cool and colorful. Taking a look back to October of 2018, VTR 432 leads GMRC 264 back to Rutland while passing through a yellow tree tunnel near Cavendish, VT.

NBSR 6402 leads the matched trio of SD70M-2s on 120 into Welsford on a sunny Sunday morning with a cut of loaded wood chips on the headpin, and intermodal bringing up the rear of the 310 axle train. This eastbound was running several hours behind schedule (which seems to happen more often than not lately), thus making this shot possible. This was a one and done as the clouds had their way at Nerepis so I gave up at that point, having happily bagged this.

The SU-99 is seen splitting thru the rock cuts along the Southern Division as the early spring colors can be seen blooming on the trees.

CN L503 with the GTW heritage SD70M-2 heads east through Munster Indiana on former GTW rails now CN's South Bend Subdivision. Munster is also my hometown where I was born and raised, so this was a really special catch for me to do.

A New York Susquehanna & Western extra rolls north on the Syracuse Main approaching the Route 11 crossing just south of Whitney Point, NY. After a very successful chase of an off-schedule SU-99, an extra crew took over in Binghamton to take the train north to Syracuse.

And now, back to our regular scheduled programming...

After 3 hours of waiting alone wondering what i'm doing there, NQSL/CN A46621-12, the six days a week manifest between Garneau and Parent finally arrives at Rivière-du-Milieu with 4117' ft of mixed freight headed for Northwestern Quebec.

Norfolk Southern 28X detoured over the New York Susquehanna & Western due to a major derailment in East Palestine, OH. The train carried the symbol SU100X while on the NYS&W, and one of their former NS SD70M-2s was added to the head end for the run between Binghamton and North Bergen. 4066 is seen passing a long out-of-service block signal that dates back to the Lehigh & Hudson River ownership of this line. This was also the first time several years that a double stack train operated over the NYS&W.

Four fresh SD70M-2s arrived in Saint John just two days ago to be added to the Irving fleet. One of four would end up leading NBSR 121-01 out of Saint John, that would later tie down once across the border in Bancroft. We picked the train up at Bancroft this morning with the clean 6411 leading the way, and ended up chasing all the way to Brownville Jct. Here, EMR 121 rolls across the Pleasant River within Cautionary Limits in preparation to yard the short train.

A SD70M-2 & SD70 lead a cut of cars out of the quarry in Limestone. This is a branch off of the Herscher branch which branches off the Chicago Sub mainline in Otto. It was cool to finally see CN here, which I’ve wanted to do for years and years.
