ASKANIA Präsentation Jahrgangsuhr ‚Quadriga‘

Bristol Hotel Kempinski Berlin - 28. August 2014

ASKANIA presentation vintage watch 'Quadriga'

Bristol Hotel Kempinski Berlin - August 28, 2014

The now legendary 'Time & Wine' event organised by Berlin-based Askania AG, which took place for the 10th time this year, once again attracted many Berlin celebrities, fans and friends of the Berlin watchmaker to Berlins Kempinski Hotel Bristol on Ku’damm. The production of a good wine has a lot to do with the production of a beautiful watch: It takes time and patience, was the motto of the evening for the presentation of the Quadriga 2014. Askania AG CEO Leonhard R. Müller emphasised that the "Quadriga 2014" is not only something special aesthetically, as the handmade Duograph (limited to 143 pieces), the current capital city watch, is reliably up to date.

The Quadriga vintage watch is Ascanias exclusive homage to Berlin's landmark, the Brandenburg Gate. As part of this series, a strictly limited special model with a special technical feature is created every year. The size of the series corresponds exactly to the number of years since the manufactory was first founded in Berlin in 1871. At that time, the inventor Carl Bamberg, son of a watchmaker and protégé of Carl Zeiss, founded the company in Berlin, which was successful with precision instruments for the navy, observatories, research and expeditions - such as theodolites, compasses, ship's clocks and pilot's watches.Film cameras were added later.Wim Wenders filmed with Askania cameras until the 1970s.

The wine: This time from Styria in Austria. Koarl Thaller had come with his excellent wines. The Thaller family's wine castle is nestled among vineyards on a range of hills not far from Fürstenfeld, in the centre of Eastern Styria's Thermenland. Whether white or red, the Styrian winegrower's wines were an excellent accompaniment and contributed significantly to the success of the evening.

The future: The Askania boss was visibly proud to report on a future project in which the watch manufacturer will be a key premium partner. The 1st Potsdam International Film Festival will celebrate its premiere on 7 October. It is to be a forum and not a second Berlinale, emphasised Benjamin Glückskind, who is in charge of the film festival in Potsdam.

The auction of the painting "Quadriga" by painter Michael Dyne Mieth, which was painted live on site, raised € 2,500, € 1,000 of which went to the Berlin Aids charity.

Live music from the harpist (Hauptstadt-Harfe) Simonetta Ginelli and the bassist of the bassist of the German-Japanese band "Osca" Shota Higashikawa.

This is a composition captured by my scanner. I wanted to try and see how the scanner caught the items in a different way than my camera. The scanner has very shallow depth of field but catches a lot of detail.

Words are by myself:

In the name of Magnus Tindal and Etain, basileos kai basilissa of AEthelemearc, peace be upon all who hears or sees these words. Wherefore let the generality of the present as well as the future subjects of Our Kingdom know a competition was held, between the finest throwers of our lands. Many axes, knives and spears where thrown but one did prevail against all others. We do confirm, therefore, this lawful promotion of {INSERT NAME HERE} to be the Thrown Weapons Champion of the Sylvan Kingdom of AEthelmearc and to Ourselves. And wishing this to remain valid unto all posterity, We forbid by edict that any one, with rash daring, infringe it, or in any way, attempt to violate it, and We validly corroborate this Our decree by the present privilege, signed by our hands, the witnesses being all who were in attendance at Hunter's Moon, the 3rd of October, AS 50.

The monkey scroll was made in about 1550-70 to celebrate the birth of a grandson to the chief priest of the Hiyoshi shrine at Mt Hiei, near Kyoto. It includes one of the earliest surviving images of serving teas. Here monkeys, who were sacred to the shrine, imitate humans enjoying a banquet. The son-in-law monkey, Yasaburo, bows to his father-in-law, Shibuzane, who pours him sake.

An early work completed before I started scanning the scrolls (2009 or 2010). This was done on the wrong paper with the wrong paint. This scroll was never given out.

The scroll was as secretive as she. It would not unveil its secrets. It always stayed blank no matter what incantation Myst whispered to its surface. Hours she spent with no avail, the tiniest dragon sitting by her side, waiting patiently for the scroll to unwound its spindle of potion ingredients and secret words to Myst, his truest friend.

I think the balance of these are excellent...
