Little personalised scrolls. The insides of these scrolls have been stamped with important words and dates.

Stamp the inside of these pretty scrolls with your Wedding date, how many years you've been married, intials or your children's names

Due to the large area of the Barony of the Far West {Japan, Korea, Guam, and sometimes China} and the small SCA population {itnierant military and teachers of English} we rely heavily on pre-made scrolls we just print out, put names on and paint. Still, I enjoy the painting.

Joan Silvertoppe's Laurel scroll ready for her elevation tomorrow. It's on vellum but using Windsor Newton paints as I didn't have time to make up my own paints for this one. My first time doing anything in this style.

The Shrine of the Book, a wing of the Israel Museum near Givat Ram in western Jerusalem, houses the Dead Sea Scrolls—discovered 1947–56 in 11 caves in and around the Wadi Qumran. (The shrine was initially to be built, but was not, on the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew University, adjoining the National Library.)

An elaborate planning process of seven years led to the building's eventual construction in 1965 which was funded by the family of David Samuel Gottesman, the Hungarian émigré, the philanthropist who had purchased the scrolls as a gift to the State of Israel. One of the architects—the pragmatic Armand Phillip Bartos (1910–2005)—was evidently chosen based on his being married to Gottesman's daughter Celeste Ruth Gottesman (who formerly had married Jerome John Altman in 1935 and divorced). For the other appointed architect—the oddball visionary Frederick John Kiesler (1890–1965)—Gottesman had earlier funded a fact-finding project to discover if Kiesler's "Endless House" could be installed at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. On the architect team was a man called Gezer Heller, who went on to build many important structures in the new State of Israel. He married Alice Hammer, sister of Ibbi Hammer, the woman who became the chief banker of the State of Israel. She was the daughter of the Chief Rabbi of Budapest.

Initially, Israeli architects strongly objected to non-Israeli architects' having been chosen through nepotism and to Kiesler's having never completed his architectural studies in Vienna and Berlin (though licensed as an architect in New York) and having never built anything. He was primarily an avant-garde stage designer who taught occasionally. Nevertheless, the American-Jewish architects had been chosen by Gottesman as early as 1955.

The shrine is built as a white dome, covering a structure placed two-thirds below the ground, that is reflected in a pool of water that surrounds it. Across from the white dome is a black basalt wall. The colors and shapes of the building are based on the imagery of the Scroll of the War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness, whereas the white dome symbolizes the Sons of Light and the black wall symbolizes the Sons of Darkness.

As the fragility of the scrolls makes it impossible to display all on a continuous basis, a system of rotation is used. After a scroll has been exhibited for 3–6 months, it is removed from its showcase and placed temporarily in a special storeroom, where it "rests" from exposure.

The museum also holds other rare ancient manuscripts and displays The Aleppo Codex. Its dome, due to the quirky architecture, has been used as scenery for several science fiction movies.

📜 The very first permanent theatre built in Rome was the Theatre of Pompey, completed in 55 BCE by Pompey Magnus. At the time of its construction, nothing like it had been built in Rome as the wooden impermanence of all previous theatres was in keeping with a Roman law prohibiting any built of stone. Pompey the Great, ever the shrewd statesman, circumvented these regulations by building a temple dedicated to numerous deities in the center of the semicircular seating area. Access to the temple was through the theatre and each level of seating corresponded to another temple floor dedicated to more gods.

The Theatre of Pompey was accompanied by lavish porticoes and gardens stretching all the way to the Largo Argentina area where some of the most sacred temples of the Campus Martius still stand in ruins to this day. Not to be outdone by their precedence, Pompey included a sizable Curia directly adjacent to the row of temples. There, the Senate convened on multiple occasions after a fire had consumed the usual Curia in the Forum. It was in the Curia of Pompey that his friend-turned-enemy Julius Cæsar was assassinated on the Ides of March, 44 BCE.

April 22, 2010, Scroll of Honor Dedication. Nearly 500 Clemson University graduates who died in service to their country were remembered Thursday during dedication ceremonies for the Scroll of Honor. Clemson President James Barker and selected dignitaries unveiled two purple-shrouded tiger statues as a crowd of up 1,000 applauded and stood at attention. To date 470 names are etched into the stone scroll. There are 27 names from WWI; one from the Nicaraguan campaign; 378 from WWII; 17 more from Korea; one, that of a pilot, from the Cuban missile crisis; 25 from the Vietnam War: and 19 from the Cold War era and the wars on terror. Two additional names were added just as the ceremony took place. The Clemson Corps, organized in 1999, is responsible for maintaining the Scroll of Honor records. The corps is associated with the Clemson Alumni Association and helps raise funds for the preservation of Clemson's military history and the creation of scholarships for ROTC cadets..

The T. Crews House, a 2-story frame house in Chatham, Virginia, was built in the 1890s. It’s dominated by a polygonal bay, each of the three sections capped with a shingled gable; vertical bands separate each division, the band running from cornice to the ground. It has a cross gable roof; the front gable is pedimented and decorated with shingles. There are brackets just below the roofline. The windows are characterized by only 2 panes and by a nearly complete window surround except at the sill. The wraparound entry porch is one-story with a hipped roof. Above the steps is a narrow pedimented gable. There’s a hanging frieze and turned columns with scroll brackets. The balustrade is in a grid pattern. The entrance has a large transom but no sidelights; the door is wooden with a single glass pane that covers perhaps 60% of the area. The T. Crews House is included in the Chatham Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places July 13, 2001 with ID#01000698
