This is the cave where Bedouin shepherds found the Dead Sea Scrolls, while searching for a missing goat. The otherwise excellent interpretative video at the nearby visitor centre sadly neglected to tell you the fate of that goat.

Yes, it’s true. The Dead Sea Scrolls have suddenly become alive! From the marriage of technology and ancient history, what has been available for only a chosen few to see is now on display for the entire world.

This year is the 65th anniversary of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in a cave in the Judean Desert, the same desert where the anointed King David hid in caves from King Saul; the same desert where Jesus fasted for 40 days before subjecting himself to the outlandish temptations of Satan; the same desert that is part of the Israeli West Bank territory; the same desert where the Bedouin have lived under the heat of the sun and of the Palestinian passion to possess the land for themselves.

Once miraculously preserved for centuries in a cave, the scrolls have been preserved through recent years by the Israel Antiquities Authority. Early attempts to preserve the thin, brittle scrolls actually resulted in additional damage. Today the IAA keeps the scrolls in a unique storage facility dedicated solely to their preservation, using strict protocols established by the input of conservation and preservation experts. Conservators record every detail of each manuscript’s condition, treatment, and maintenance, no matter how miniscule.

In terms of scroll content, the project is not complete, but in terms of website content, there is more than enough to keep lovers of God’s Word busy for a very long time. Viewers may search and browse by content, by language or by discovery site.

What a blessing to Christians and Jews the world over. We can view and read portions of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Ruth, Judges, Job, Psalms, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. God’s Word is forever settled in Heaven. (Psalm 119:89) It is a blessing to see how the Bible has been preserved in print and available through the ages. It is equally a blessing to see how the Dead Sea Scrolls have been, and are being, preserved through the ages, and how they are now available to us. What a great and mighty God we serve.

Let us pray with thanksgiving for yet another demonstration of the awesome and powerful love of God in preserving and publishing these scrolls for us to see. Let’s pray with thanksgiving for the Jewish people and the nation of Israel. Let’s pray God’s blessing upon Israel and pray for the peace of Jerusalem. (Psalm 122:6)

This is a photograph from the Ringtown Hurling Club Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races, fun runs, and walks which were held in Whitehall, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Easter Monday (April 6th 2015) at 11:00 and 11:15 respectively. Ringtown Hurling club is situated in Whitehall which is on the R394 between Mullingar and Castlepollard. The half marathon started outside the GAA club. The 10KM race started about 1KM away from the start/finish area. Both races shared the same route. The race event was also a fundraiser for the charity TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accomodation Mullingar) which provides emergency accomodation for women and children of the midlands who are subject of domestic and sexual violence. They are located at Teach Fáilte, Green Road, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. 55 participants took part in the Half marathon while approximately 85 participants took part in the 10KM.

Our full set of photographs from today's event are available on Flickr at the following link https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157651783292685/

The half marathon started at the GAA club. The main loop of 6 miles started here at the GAA club and proceeded around some beautiful rural back roads with major turns at [goo.gl/maps/8Iw9S], [goo.gl/maps/in6yE], and [goo.gl/maps/JJzwM] before joining up with the R394 and Castlepollard and returning back to Ringtown/Whitehall. The 10KM race was held on this same route but having departed before the half marathon the participants were mostly infront of the main field in the half marathon.

This was the GAA club's second hosting of this event and the overwhelming reaction of participants was that it went perfectly again following on from last year's very successful event. There was a team of Motorcycle outriders and Gardai who expertly controlled traffic flow (particularly along the very busy R394) and made for very safe running conditions for all participants. There was a wonderful selection of refreshments provided afterwards and maybe people were able to sit out in the sun and enjoy a well earned rest after the race. Shower facilities were provided in the GAA club.

I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
