Parchment scroll, dating back to the 1740's. As described by Elsie Toms in her book - The Story of St Albans, on page 128.
This pillow is based on a bus scroll that listed destinations along the Oakridge bus line in Vancouver. Vancouver’s public transit system completed its transition from streetcars to buses, “from rails to rubber” by 1955. There was public enthusiasm for the new electric trolley buses that passengers found quieter and cleaner than the well-worn streetcars. In the 1980s, when other cities were eliminating them, BC Transit renewed its commitment to the quiet pollution-free efficiency of trolley buses.. This scroll was in use about 1975 to 1985.

April 22, 2010, Scroll of Honor Dedication. Nearly 500 Clemson University graduates who died in service to their country were remembered Thursday during dedication ceremonies for the Scroll of Honor. Clemson President James Barker and selected dignitaries unveiled two purple-shrouded tiger statues as a crowd of up 1,000 applauded and stood at attention. To date 470 names are etched into the stone scroll. There are 27 names from WWI; one from the Nicaraguan campaign; 378 from WWII; 17 more from Korea; one, that of a pilot, from the Cuban missile crisis; 25 from the Vietnam War: and 19 from the Cold War era and the wars on terror. Two additional names were added just as the ceremony took place. The Clemson Corps, organized in 1999, is responsible for maintaining the Scroll of Honor records. The corps is associated with the Clemson Alumni Association and helps raise funds for the preservation of Clemson's military history and the creation of scholarships for ROTC cadets..

Due to the large area of the Barony of the Far West {Japan, Korea, Guam, and sometimes China} and the small SCA population {itnierant military and teachers of English} we rely heavily on pre-made scrolls we just print out, put names on and paint. Still, I enjoy the painting.
Nicki had perched herself on this bench while I was taking the previous post shots, and it had these beautiful iron scroll arms.
I should probably have removed the leaf as it steals focus away from the scroll, breaking what would otherwise be a pleasing elliptical spiral movement of the eye around the picture.
