One of William Morris' more popular designs, this one painted in Holland on a six inch blank. Not to be reproduced without permission. Not to be reproduced without permission.
This is an partially complete example from one of the Challenge Scrolls that was made to give out to knights whom I sought to fight in my quest. The calligraphy was done by Isabella Nicola de Leon. I laid out the illumination. Mistress Rhianwen and I spent many enjoyable hours colouring and detailing the scrolls - a job which has yet to be completely finished (though I've given out quite a number of the scrolls over the year). I must note that some extra help illuminating was given by both Lady Isabella and Lady Niamh O'Heyne.
Due to the large area of the Barony of the Far West {Japan, Korea, Guam, and sometimes China} and the small SCA population {itnierant military and teachers of English} we rely heavily on pre-made scrolls we just print out, put names on and paint. Still, I enjoy the painting.
Parchment scroll, dating back to the 1760's. As described by Elsie Toms in her book - The Story of St Albans, on page 128.
Handpicked, handcut and polished to a wonderful shine for designing into these one-of-a-kind earrings using traditional goldsmithing methods - - all by hand, by me! The bezeled stones are natural fire opals and natural moonstone cabochons.

Details and History
The Library of Congress website offers a multitude of historical images, many with no known restrictions on use. This 1905 Griffith and Griffith stereoview shows an officer controlling pedestrians while president Roosevelt leaves the White House grounds for the Capitol.

I had this on my headboard, holding a few books over the last few months after buying it in a thrift store for three dollars.
Dug up some information on the internet via a great website dealing in beautiful Art Deco pieces. (www.decollect.com)
This was designed by Fred D. Farr for Revere Copper and Brass Incorporated in the mid-1930's. The scroll holds the books against the block and it also has a nice thermometer inside. ("West-O-Therm")
I really enjoy finding out the background of some of the pieces I find.
