I've been visiting this place known locally as the "Graff Factory" for a couple of years and in all that time, the Street Fighter graff pieces remained intact and untagged. Tonight I found it mostly ruined by a graff "artist" who is nowhere near as good. It won't be long before Scorpion is gone altogether...
We bumped into a couple from Three Hills who we hit it off with on our visit to Ixtapa. They were staying at the same Condo (they own 2 suites) and are also in the dog business like us.
Valina was more than willing to let me do my first swimming pool photo shoot and in the Infinity Pool to boot. There was no way that I was going to miss out on the opportunity to float, take photos, and use my Fuji X-A1 and the 35mm f/1.4 lens in low light.
We were visiting Spello, a medieval walled town of pre-Roman origins preserving three Roman gates and many other remains from the Roman age. Stone upon stone, in such ancient towns every inch is colonized and civilized. Houses, churches, palaces and towers are huddled together like male Emperor penguins in a colony during incubation. As you are strolling around, breathing with the breath of history, you should expect some suprise at every bending - a flight of steps running up towards the bright colours of a walled garden, an enticing alley carved out of the crowded buildings, a small curiosity shop or a brewery where you can eat some local food while tasting their (usually quite good) handmade beer...
Here I have captured a typical view of Spello (Fonte del Mastro street, looking downwards). The small church at the dead center of the framing, suppressed after the unification of Italy in the 19th century, is now home to the European Studies Center of Medieval Music "Adolfo Broegg" (sorry, in spite of the international vocation of the Center, the site is almost entirely in Italian).
But there is even more than this to Umbria - more than simply this flavourful cocktail of nature, history, and art. One of the things I love of Umbria is the Umbrian people. The Umbrians are generally friendly, even congenial, and they enjoy taking (or rather tasting) life at an easy pace - which is particularly refreshing for people like us, coming from antipodean places where every day is just a new damn hectic day. This quiet, typical view of Spello shows just a minimal touch of human presence: a man climbing the steep paved street on his Vespa scooter - admittedly only a negligible bit faster than walking. But then, I am sure that it was just a way to save his breath for something more important :-)...
I have obtained this picture by blending a "fake" (i.e. from a single RAW file) exposure bracketing [-1.0/0/+1.0 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot).
The Tooth Fairy visited last night! The money went straight into her piggy bank, because Kitty has BIG plans: she wants to adopt an elephant and there is a $10 adoption fee. Yes, there is actually an elephant available for adoption at the animal shelter, and Kitty intends to add him to her menagerie.
This Middie Blythe doll is Yellow Marshmallow for “Saving Money” and “Animal Kingdom”. The piggy bank is from an Our Generation dolls play set.
Elsa is saving a couple Mpolys. Maybe she can buy a new pair of shoes soon.
This piggy bank is Hamm from Toy Story.

I've broken you #FatherFreud just as much as you broke my spirit the past weeks

While culling shots from a road trip in 2009, this morning shot from near the lighthouse in Byron Bay struck me as one worth saving.
Another one of this beautiful White Peacock butterfly in the backyard. The backyard has gotten away from me AGAIN as my health has been awful. But here was this beauty. The sprinklers were on (it's so hot here) and it was on the beautiful Lantana. Unfortunately, one of my water buckets (turned over ... I use them to catch rainwater, etc.) was in her background. So I cropped this sucker three times and resized it each time. Painted it which I love to do anyway, and I was pleased that my editing skills sometimes save my ruined photos. My pride gets in the way sometimes, so I didn't let it this time, the shot of the butterfly WAS perfect before all the cropping. And those are water drops from the sprinklers which I wanted to save, too, but ...

I have been collecting memories for a life time.....albums, pictures, and stories ......... storing them as we all have. This is a reminder of the beauty of it all!
They didn't want to say goodbye to winter, or to Frosty, who was truly an outstanding snowman. So they saved his head (the only part of him that would fit in the refrigerator), turned the temperature all the way down, and hoped for the best.
Vera Florentine and Nellie Nibbles are the actresses in today's little drama. This picture is for the theme "snow." It was the best I could do!

The cutting-edge technology that keeps the Silverstone motor racing track in tip-top condition could be coming to Croydon. John Bownas spoke to the team hoping to bring it here.
Pot holes – we all hate ‘em, and Croydon certainly has its share.
But now, the borough’s highways team is taking a lead from the people responsible for maintaining Silverstone’s grand prix circuit.
New technology that is good enough for the world’s top racing drivers is being tested in Croydon to see if it is up to the council’s exacting standards.
If trials are successful, the infrared-powered Nu-Phalt repair system could become invaluable to Croydon’s road repair crews who would be the first in London to realise its potential benefits.
Apart from a significant possible cost saving, the biggest advantages that the new technique has over traditional methods are:
•speed: a typical 1 square metre repair can be completed in just 20 minutes; currently, the same job takes considerably longer, and would be only a temporary fix;
•durability: the infra-red triggered thermal bonding means that patch repairs are far more permanent and blend seamlessly into the surrounding road surface;
•environmentally friendly: the process starts by recycling the existing macadam and needs only a small amount of new material to top off the repair.
The council has recently announced a multi-million pound investment project to resurface many of its roads.
However, there will always be a need for fast and efficient repairs in those cases where small patches of tarmac work loose.
This can happen at any time of the year – although it is usually after spells of wet or cold weather that these small holes open up to create a real headache for motorists and cyclists.
In total, the council’s emergency repairs operation currently costs about £560k every year in manpower and materials – and that’s not including the money that is budgeted separately for the major road resurfacing schemes that we will be seeing a lot more of over the next few years.
Steve Iles is the council’s head of highways, and he knows better than anyone else in the borough just how big a task it is to stay on top of the thousands of road repairs that his teams have to carry out every year.
Talking to Your Croydon about this mammoth job and his hopes for the promising high-tech solution, he first ran through some of the big numbers involved.
“We’ve got nearly 3,000 roads in Croydon, and these all get inspected by the council at least twice a year.
“We look out for any problems that might have arisen since the last visit – and particularly any new holes or cracks that could pose a hazard.
“Since January our system’s logged nearly 5,000 new reports from both streetscene inspectors and those members of the public who phone or email to tell us about possible problems.”
In that same time we’ve managed to fill in or repair about 9,800 – but there’s still around 8,600 that we know about waiting to be fixed.
“That takes a lot of doing,” continued Steve, “I’ve got six full-time staff who spend the majority of their day out doing this sort of work.
“And when they can’t do road repairs, because of snow and ice, they drive the gritting lorries to try to keep the roads clear.”
Tony Whyatt is the highways engineer whose research into improved technology solutions has led to the trial of the Nu-Phalt system.
“I’m really optimistic about how this will save us time and money.
“We reuse most of the existing road material on-site and need to add only a small amount of fresh material to each repair.
“There’s no noisy compressors, and the system cuts the number of vehicles and staff involved in each repair.
“We also minimise disruption to traffic – which is good for drivers – and these repairs can be driven over again almost immediately they’re finished.”
Indeed, driving away from our meeting with Tony we drove over a number of holes that had just been filled – and the first thing we noticed was that we didn’t notice them at all.
The repaired road was as smooth as the day it was originally laid.
This didn't turn out as planned.
I assumed this would be a "Henry Shot" - as the pup is normally a total slob when he drinks.
I drop a cookie in the bowl, he goes snorkeling for it, water goes everywhere, ta-da!
And that's exactly what happened.
The floor was a disaster by the time he was done.
The Titanic probably sank in less water.
Alas, the Photographer was stupid and wasn't paying attention to her flash, which - due to dying batteries - wasn't really flashing.
(sigh)
Batter up!
Zachary was now on deck.
Mr. Prissy Drinker himself.
The dog who acts like he's going to melt if so much as a drop of moisture gets on his muzzle.
The dog who stared at the Cookie I'd just dropped in the bowl and then patiently waited for me to fish it out for him.
Yeah, that Zachary.
Only I didn't go fishing, I just sat there pointing to the increasingly soggy Cookie, giving him my cheeriest "Find it!" cue.
He looked at me like I was nuts.
Zachary: "The Cookie is right there, Mom. Drowning."
Me: "Save it!"
Zachary: "I'll get wet."
Me: "You'll get a Cookie."
Thankfully, Zachary found his inner life-guard and I got my shot.
Whew!

This was taken while my beautiful friend and photog Christine was visiting...she brought the rainy weather with her from Seattle, which turned out to be a great thing for photography :-) We traveled all up and down SoCal taking photos...she even took some of me. This one is a self portrait also featuring Olivia Clemens :-)
Now I am in PA for a week visiting family...a much needed trip as I was extremely homesick and longed for the familiar feeling of a cool breeze, autumn leaves, and my dad's famous soups.

Every two weeks our local Council provides a collection service for household recyclable items.
Garden refuse and plastics are collected separately and this vehicle collects paper, card, glass and tins.
Something more hopeful this time... I love black and white photography and i truly feel that most of my work will be b&w, but i really like some concepts with color. It's hard making the commitment to a certain style even if it evolves in an organic way. You are always learning, always changing.
This one is about holding on to your dreams even if it looks you are loosing, and trying to get there alone... Keep going, you can't insert a coin for continues.
