Quilt Sampler 2 by Johanna Masko

Pattern from Inside Crochet magazine.

This active WIP has turned into an hibernating one due to poorly written instructions, mistakes and typo.

Might come back to it at a later date when other pressing projects are completed.

A pair of American Robins flanking a flower basket are the visual highlight of this sampler. Additional birds – including some in mid-flight – complement butterflies, trees, flowers and dogs within an uncommon zigzag border. The alphabet reiterates the traditional role of samplers as a record of stitches that might be needed later in life to monogram the family linens.

I designed and cross-stitched this sampler 25 years ago for the daughter of a friend. That same little girl got married last Sat., 9-22-07, and I'm hoping she and her new husband will have a baby in the next few years so I can use the same pattern to make another one.

For the Sept. Scavenger Hunt #11 - I made it.

Dan and I met up with our pals from interchangeableparts on Saturday at Triumph in Princeton. Which we now frequent because of the wedding. And i'm okay with that. All four of us ordered samplers (our poor waitress) and it was awesome. It's always so much fun to hang out with them - we laugh so, so much. And then I bought too much at Paper Source because of all the beer. (And I'm also okay with that.)

This sampler was stitched by 12-year-old Emma Harrison in 1881. Emma was born in Northend Warwickshire. The sampler is in the possession of her granddaughter Mavis Potter.

There was a lovely mix of cute stuff inside, but the packaging was uber cute too!
