After that we went back to my house and played on EA's Skate.
The stars are right! The mad chocolatier of Arkham in the Little Candy Shop of Horrors has produced another confectionary wonder: The Pickman’s Sampler, just in time for the Equinox Bunny. They are all so wonderful, which one will be eaten first? They are so delightful, you’ll just lose your mind!

Present to celebrate the 25th wedding anniversary of friends Clare and Ray.
This piece was originally designed and kitted by Barbara Rakosnik The changes I made relate to the date, text and bottom band.
Here is the sampler after being washed and dried.
The warp and tabby are natural 8/2 cotton
The sampler is about 14" long, and 5 1/4" wide
Wefts are (from left to right):
1) Grey blue 'crinkly' rayon - The irregularity of the 'crinkle' yarn made the pattern irregular and turned some of the diamonds into more of a blob. Will be pretty in some other project, but this wasn't the one for it.
2) Dark brown 8/2 rayon - Pattern came out too 'sketchy'. One strand isn't thick enough for pattern weft.
3) Navy blue chenille - See that skinny little row of dark blobs? The chenille was quickly an obvious wrong choice for this. I figured it most likely would be, but since there was some leftover on a bobbin already, tried it out of curiosity.
4) Turquoise 8/2 cotton - The pattern looked nice on this one, but came out too stiff for a scarf. Would be nice for something like a table runner and such though.
5) Dark Green 4/2 cotton - Looked ok, though I like the 8/2 better. Much too stiff for scarves.
6) Dark brown 8/2 rayon, double stranded. The rayon gave it a nice drape. Doubling it up made it thick enough to be a pattern weft, and loose the 'sketchy' look from the first try. This was chosen for the first scarf.
7) Variegated 4/2 cotton - The variegated color was interesting to play with, but the 4/2 is just a bit too thick for this. Very stiff, like the green.
8) Same yarn as #7 with a Tromp-As-Writ treadling, instead of the As-Drawn-In being used for the others.
9) White 8/2 cotton - You can't really see it, but I tried a few shots of white on the natural to see what effect it gave. Might be neat, but it was more work to keep track of than I wanted to do right now.
I definitely need to order the other 3 samplers. Clockwise from top right- Summer, winter, fall, spring. I really love the summer one with fireworks over the water.

Finally getting tired of working with scraps, I decided I wanted to start a sampler. I looked through the books I own, and then decided, why follow someone else's pattern? I'll just do my own! I have enough reference books.
This block is taken from The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns by Jinny Beyer.
