Patchwork Sampler is coming together! It is bigger than I planned!

Pattern from Inside Crochet magazine.

This active WIP has turned into an hibernating one due to poorly written instructions, mistakes and typo.

Might come back to it at a later date when other pressing projects are completed.

Silk and linen

A pair of American Robins flanking a flower basket are the visual highlight of this sampler. Additional birds – including some in mid-flight – complement butterflies, trees, flowers and dogs within an uncommon zigzag border. The alphabet reiterates the traditional role of samplers as a record of stitches that might be needed later in life to monogram the family linens.

This 1955 jazz sampler somehow resurfaced from my mother's house. The sleeve partially nibbled by unidentified creatures.

Began photocopying the sleeve and ended up trying to recreate it. The original is shown left, my copy to the right. Made a mistake with my scissors in the upper left corner. So I made it look like a cut-out mark.

It's a mid-sized 10-inch record my father possibly received from a family member living in Canada. This record was mailorder only, distributed in both the US and Canada. My father wasn't into jazz but he kept the record anyway.

After all those years one track still moves me. It's Relaxin' at Camarillo by the incredible Charlie Parker. Camarillo was the name of the rehab clinic Parker had just left. Song titles were invented by studio personnel so Parker could stick to making music.

This was my first quilt, made of 12 different blocks. The beauty of this quilt is the variation of each distinct pattern. It took me 10 years to hand quilt it.

I designed and cross-stitched this sampler 25 years ago for the daughter of a friend. That same little girl got married last Sat., 9-22-07, and I'm hoping she and her new husband will have a baby in the next few years so I can use the same pattern to make another one.

For the Sept. Scavenger Hunt #11 - I made it.

Dan and I met up with our pals from interchangeableparts on Saturday at Triumph in Princeton. Which we now frequent because of the wedding. And i'm okay with that. All four of us ordered samplers (our poor waitress) and it was awesome. It's always so much fun to hang out with them - we laugh so, so much. And then I bought too much at Paper Source because of all the beer. (And I'm also okay with that.)

This sampler was stitched by 12-year-old Emma Harrison in 1881. Emma was born in Northend Warwickshire. The sampler is in the possession of her granddaughter Mavis Potter.

This was a block of the month my guild did last year. It came from the book Rotary Cut Quilts, by Fons and Porter.

VIntage Sampler from sweetfindings (etsy) bought for my daughter who has decided to dive headfirst into the art of Jewellery making!

There was a lovely mix of cute stuff inside, but the packaging was uber cute too!
