Rust doing its thing. As rust has a much higher volume than the originating mass of iron, its build-up can cause failure by forcing apart adjacent parts — a phenomenon known as "rust smacking". It was the cause of the collapse of the Mianus river bridge in 1983, when the bearings rusted internally and pushed one corner of the road slab off its support.

Maybe the weather acted to our advantage, as there were not many people visiting the museum. We all had a wonderful day out, and the weather? Clear blue skies and sunshine!
This wonderful, rusty, old machine was standing on the verge. Does anyone know what it is? I think it might be an old tar boiler/spreader.
Rusty Snaketails are stunning as tenerals. Their green color is stiking but surprisingly hard to spot in the tangles along the riverbank.
