R-58 skirts scenic Northwoods’ lakes while wandering through thick pine and hardwood forests. This route crosses a railroad bed used in the 1800s as a main line to Minocqua. It has been converted to the Bearskin State Trail for hiking and bicycling. This route intersects with the Tomahawk River and two small creeks, through cedar lowlands and dense pine and hardwood forests.

Years ago, an elaborate set was made for the movie "The Alamo" starring John Wayne. This set still stands and, since then, has been used for various movies about the Alamo and Texas. When not being used for movies, Alamo Village near Del Rio, Texas, is open to visitors.

21.11.2010 Seasalter.

The day started at Sandwich where we refound the 3 shorelarks and watched a ringtail hen and a marsh harrier terrorising the pigeons but a call came from Steve Ashton telling us of a rustic bunting at Seasalter so we were off.

As we arrived the bunting was showing well in a tree overhanging the footpath but soon moved off towards some gardens where it was lost from view. As I was returing to our initial position on the footpath it landed in a garden just a few feet away. It seemed to take an age for the camera to focus but I managed 3 shots before it disappeared again.

As I've said before better to be lucky than good!

The footpath was very busy with ~ 20-30 twitchers and numerous Sunday strollers many of whom stopped and chatted about what we were looking at and where did it come from. All in all a very pleasant twitch and a life tick to boot.
