Turner RT-14

Following his first Thompson Trophy victory in 1934, famed racing pilot Roscoe Turner contracted with the Lawrence W. Brown Aircraft Company to build a new racing aircraft. Designed by Turner and engineered by University of Minnesota professor Howard Barlow, the Turner racer was completed in mid-1936.

Known as the Laird Turner LTR-14 and later the Turner RT-14, the modified racer placed third in the 1937 Thompson Trophy event at the National Air Races and won the 1938 and 1939 contests. With this aircraft, Turner became the only three-time winner of the Thompson Trophy. In 1939 the aircraft was sponsored by Champion Spark Plugs and therefore carried the name “Miss Champion” on its fuselage.

RT 190 at Longbridge Road Roundabout,Barking on its way to the Barking Garage event.

This tower is part of a furniture factory in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I wish I knew more about the history of the building. Today it is owned by RT London, but that company has only existed since 1989.

Uxbridge bus station plays host to Garston based RT 3636 (GR) working on route 347 to Hemel Hempstead, a route which saw a mixture of RTs and RMLs. Wednesday 8th October 1975. 2V-1.

Stripped for spares, it soon made a one-way trip up north!

Although 3491 was always a red bus in real life, at the time LT would not allow disposed of vehicles to display their livery. So Evadne was painted green and has been so ever since.

Looking much better than it did in March 81, only the chassis now survives at Shaftetsbury.

New in April 1952, RT 3496 had a relatively short working life being placed into store in December 1963 having only worked from Amersham, Dunton Green and Hemel Hempstead garages. A year later it was acquired for preservation, and it is seen here at the North Weald bus rally on Sunday 6th July 2008. DSCN4439.

A must on journeys to or from Southsea was a stop at the café at Hindhead. This was on a stretch of the A3 that has now been turned back to nature. This is probably the best shot I have of 190, apart from Colin the background! I'll have to Photoshop him!
