Harrow Weald's conversion to RMs on route 140 was scheduled for 13th August 1978, but the RT availabilty gradually worsened, so the date was brought forward to 15th July 1978, and it meant the end of RTs at one of LTs most prestigious termini, Heathrow Airport. RT 3911 (HD) departs Heathrow Airport on a trip running the full length of the 140 to Mill Hill Broadway station, two months before the influx of RMs to this busy West London route. Tuesday 16th May 1978. 4G-4.
My BMW R80 RT recently sold on ebay - it has a brand new MOT - no work was required.
That indicator stork has lost some paint too. I've painted the tax disc holder above it, but it seemed pointless trying to touch up every single bit - better to leave it genuine so the buyer can see what he (or she) is getting and let them decide what they want to do.
EFE's early castings were of London Transport RTs, including this one showing London Airport as the destination. Not a terribly good representation in my view and I'm surprised that EFE haven't re-cast this particular model.
The best RT around at the time (not only 'cos I met my wife on it) was 190. Dating from 1947 with the classic early roofbox RT3 style of body.
A candid shot of a a strangely uniformed guy (does anyone recognise it?) asleep on one of the bench seats at the rear of an RT's lower saloon. Presumably the bus is laying over somewhere - or is this in the yard of Barking garage? Is that reflection in the nearside front window above the bonnet the window of an SM/SMS or a DMS?
