Sadie contemplates her food bowl while the others watch me for any sign of capitulation.
My only complaint about Sadie, and considering she is just 3 months shy of her seventeenth birthday it’s a small complaint, is that she is a very finicky eater. I probably worry about it or cater to her more than I should, I mean by this time in her life I’m sure she knows when she needs to eat or not.
I typically pull a gate across the doorway there, but sometimes if I open the gate and she observes the vultures about to circle her food bowl that provides an added incentive for her to eat. Sometimes. The others here have not eaten breakfast yet, which they will get once Sadie finishes, or doesn’t, and they will all eat out in the dog yard. Sadie will go out to supervise that as well…. I don’t know if it is a ritual, a routine, or a circus, but it’s a scene that gets repeated everyday, twice a day.
Lenore and I have a very familiar mantra here, and it goes like this, "Sadie..... EAT!"

Little video of a group of Oyestercatchers doing their courtship routine. A lot of them seem to nest in quiet meadows instead of coastal beach's, perhaps too many dog walkers there!
Sometimes we eat not because we are hungry, it's just part of the daily routine...

Yesterday i was making my routine visit to flickr and i saw a this photo from Alvaro and after reading the description i took my car and drove to the beach to do exactly what it says there. When i came back my mind was clear.

As I photographed this bench from various angles I spotted a dog walker and was able to capture the two together. The dog clearly knows the route and leads the way leading me to believe that this is a routine that doesn't change much. That perhaps the bench is never used by this person. How do routines prevent us from getting the most out of life. Is the man really there with his dog or is he thinking about something else? The practice of mindfulness is about totally being in the moment. Isn't that why we do photography?
