"Shangri La is a 250+ acre space in Orange, Texas, along the waterways of Adams Bayou that combines botanical gardens and an education nature center in a unique way. Imagine a place where you can escape the routine and stroll along garden paths surrounded by fragrant flowers, bird watch for hours, and spend time with friends and family."

Originally opened to the public in 1946, the gardens were closed after a winter storm in 1958 killed most of the plants. In 2002, plans were made to renovate and reopen the gardens. Work was slated to being in 2005, only for Hurricane Rita to made a direct hit, taking out over 50,000 trees. With revised plans, work carried on, and the gardens opened in March of 2008, only to take another direct storm hit from Hurricane Ike later that year. .

The gardens reopened in March 2009, and have remained open ever since.
