Crystal Lake police are investigating a jewelry store robbery where an employee was hit in the face by the suspect on Saturday.
At around 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, the Crystal Lake Police Department responded to Dalzell Jewelers at 41 North Williams Street in Crystal Lake for a report of a robbery.
Authorities said that a black male had entered the store and asked to see specific jewelry. While being shown the jewelry, the suspect took two trays of diamond jewelry and fled from the business.
While fleeing from the business and employees, the suspect struck one of the employees with his hand who tried to stop him. The employee refused medical attention at the scene. No weapons were displayed or implied during the robbery. An accurate price of the stolen jewelry is not yet available, police said.
The black male suspect was described as being in his 20’s with a medium build, approximately 6’1″ tall, wearing a black t-shirt with white lettering on it believed to be “Hoops”, gray sweatpants, and white athletic shoes. The suspect got into a getaway vehicle with a male black driver.

The robbery is still under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division are seeking the
identity of two suspects wanted in connection with the robbery of the
Portside Liquor store in the 6900 block of Indian Head Highway in Bryans
Road. Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward for information
leading to the arrest of the suspects.
On Sept. 2 at 7 p.m., the suspects entered the store, approached a clerk,
displayed a handgun and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspects
fled. One suspect is between 6'0" - 6'3" with a medium build. At the time of
the robbery, he was wearing a black skull cap, black shirt and black shorts.
The other suspect is between 5'7" - 5'9", thin build, had his hair in a
ponytail and wore a red baseball cap.

Kleptoparasitism (literally, parasitism by theft) is a "skill" practiced by both Willets and Sanderlings, with the target usually being other shorebirds or ones of their own species. Though we observed Sanderlings chasing Willets much more often than the reverse, this Willet clearly decided it was payback time :)

Taken at 11:30 at night. Propped a 36" reflector up against the tripod to reflect moonlight / ambient light at least onto the face. Used a remote trigger coupled with the 3 second delay so I could click the button and get into position. It was very dark on this side of the house.
I admit, this is a self portrait. I had more reservations about photographing myself and how I appear than I did about telling my story of being robbed.
I had to buy gasoline today (petrol for my European friends).
Due to unstable political situations elsewhere in the world the price of gas in North Bay was $1.28.8 per liter this morning. Those not familiar with metric volumes, that is about $5.87 a Canadian gallon or about $5.15 for an American gallon.
Today I spent $60.00 and received 46.587 liters or just over 10 Canadian gallons.
Now, I am a capitalist and I strongly support the cause and effect of "fair" market forces and the role honest markets and competition play in an economy and on various commodities.... So in a fair and honest market, the price of goods should be supported and reflective of various forces including supply and demand on one hand, and competition within the marketplace on the other.
Where I live, all of the gasoline stations seem to display the same price per litre and any price fluctuation seems to happen (both up and down) at pretty much the same time. Is that a sign of true competition? Or are other factors at play?
Now lets be fair to the gasoline industry and not give it all to them on the chin. Let's realize that 13% (or $6.90) of what I paid was HST (so as a sales tax, as the price goes up, the Federal & Provincial Treasuries WIN!!!), plus another $.10/lite is a Federal Excise Tax and $.14.7/litre Provincial Road Tax, translates that the actual price is only a bargin rate of $0.89.3/litter. What a deal!
Anyways, energy is such an important issue. It affects the price of everything. As one person is there anything I can do?
