I was robbed on Treasure Island, San Francisco at dusk on 9/27. My camera, lens and tripod, all gone. Please be careful everyone! It's so terrible around the Bay Area recently. Be sure if you are safe while you are photographing.
This image was taken with cell phone when I was waiting for the police; spot location is looking southwest to the Bay Bridge and downtown of San Francisco from Yerba Buena Island.

The Royal Terns have such interesting behavior. The chicks are able to recognize a parent's call in the din of hundreds of calls which, to a human, all sound alike. Sometimes one parent will come to the chick to help guard it when the other comes with food. The food bearing parent has to dodge Laughing Gulls which make their living and feed their young, co-existing at the same rookery, with food stolen from the terns. Often the food bearing Royal has to make several passes as it's chased by the gulls. When it does land, the passage of the fish, shrimp or squid is measured in milliseconds. Too much fun to describe. The air battles are the most difficult as they happen without notice, las only a few seconds and generally are away from the rookery. Here's one I was able to get showing the aerial skills of the Laughing Gull attempting to steal the fish. In this instance, the Royal managed to get away with the prize and feed its chick.

Every trekker through the wonderful Simien Mountain's national park must be accompanied by at least a guard or 'scout' who tends to stay behind and watch over things. Carrying what looked like an unloaded Ak-47 for some reason and dressed in a suit jacket, our older-aged scout was much more effective at coughing and wheezing his way though the canyon laden landscape than being of any practical benefit to defend us if something were to go weary.
Truthfully I haven't heard of any robberies or other foul play around these parts and I would guess that mandatory scouts are being used as a local community builder and job creator for the relatively impoverished people of the highlands. Nevertheless his services weren't expensive and you're helping the local community while getting the wonderful opportunity to hike this beautiful land and take the occasional photo with him in it.

What witnesses to a bank robbery or a cattle rustling might say to the pursuing hero in an old B-western, this bent Joshua tree might say as it points with its extended branch down the roadway descending from the foothills of the Ord Mountains toward the Mojave riverbed.

Film: 35mm GAF Versapan (expired 1972), exposed at ISO 32, developed in Arista Liquid Developer (1+9) for 5:15 minutes @ 69 degrees, and scanned with an Epson V600 scanner.
Well, after experiencing a robbery from nearby - when we were visiting the TEFAF art fair (I saw the discarded sledgehammer left by the four robbers as they were fleeing) - I walked on the Sint-Pietersberg at Maastricht. Wonderful place, of course. Here's a view of the so-called Oehoevallei, Eagle Owl Valey. Those raptorial birds (=robbers) reside especially in the caves to the left. As I was admiring the view, another Robber of sorts, a Sicus ferrugineus, landed on a Scabious right next to me.
A day with three Robbers! What could be next!?

BILLY MINER:
Ezra Allen Miner (circa 1847 – September 2, 1913), more popularly known as Bill Miner.
Billy Miner was a infamous train robber.
It is believed that he staged British Columbia's first-ever train robbery on September 10, 1904 at Silverdale about 35 km east of Vancouver, just west of Mission City. It is often claimed that Miner was the robber, but neither he nor his accomplices were ever tied conclusively to the Silverdale heist. It is also widely reported that Silverdale's train robbery was the first in Canada.

What you see here is 2 beewolfs and a captured honey bee. The bee wolf that you clearly see is trying to snatch the honey bee in mid flight from the other bee wolf on the bottom.This all happened in a split second so I was very excited that I caught this moment.

The spectacular light art route through the city center of Enschede is back from 14 to 17 December! The theme this year is "Here and Now". During these evenings you will walk a free route through a light experience in Enschede
where the old road climbed a steep rise towards the rock outcrop in the middle of this place Gardiner's gang forced two dray drivers to block the road with their carts. As the gold escort coach slowed to make the grade it was then blocked by the drays and the gang opened fire with rifles and pistols. The coach overturned, its escort were either incapacitated by gunshots or fled into the bush. The ruffians then looted the gold and currency and fled the scene with over a million dollars worth of loot [in todays terms]

The stagecoach was built for Ted Andes's Tech West display at Brickworld Chicago 2016, but I've tweaked the engine greebles since then. I was always concerned about this thing looking too steampunk, so I went all Star Wars on them.
I wanted to recreate Ted's Lone Ranger bad guys for this scene, but I didn't have all the parts in the right colors. What started with a few substitutions led to a new bike design using the same basic ideas and connections as the Scout. You can get a better look at it here.
CFPS 40106 (D306) 'Atlantic Conveyor' has just departed from Irwell Vale station and rounds the curve descending into Lumb Wood with the 11.04 Rawtenstall to Heywood service.
Never painted BR Blue, 40106 has been based at the ELR since May 2016 and after a recent repaint and overhaul is due to appear at the ELR Diesel Gala this weekend.
* D306 gained world-wide attention in a brief film career, disguised as D326, the loco was used in a re-enactment of the Great Train robbery for the hit movie "Buster". Filming took place at the Great Central Railway on 29th October 1987.
