In just one week after contacting Precision Matthews, a complete quill feed drive assembly arrives at my shop. Nice service. Stay tuned - I'm about to tear down the head again to install this replacement. I can already see that the brass pinion gear is in much better shape than the one that came with the mill originally.

Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!

Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. The one sunny spot we found came with a time limit as a ruddy great big lamppost shadow edged its way into shot therefore limiting use of that corner. All in all though, it proved to be a belter!! Maybe have it in the Spring next time please Network Rail?

The 5510 (with the qwerty keyboard) is my favorite. It's my first MP3 player and comes with line-in and radio recording. Unfortunately it no longer starts up and displays a "not charging" error when plugged. I've used it for a long time, though.

The 6510 was a hand-me-down from my uncle when he returned from Saudi Arabia. It's a real small phone that I nearly misplaced a couple of times. Good PDA replacement during its time.

The 7610 was from my sister, which she no longer uses since she upgraded to a newer unit. I use it for mobile developement and stuff from time to time.

My early 2005 40gig iPhoto Photo ("The Fonze") still worked, but the battery life was getting dismal. I've always liked the look of the 4th-gen iPods, and really felt no need to upgrade... but after it was too antiquated to fit in my friend's car charger doohickey a few weeks ago, it was time to fix the battery so it could, at least, last a weekend.

After a considering local $39.99 battery replacement services (a friend had a fairly unsuccessful experience with one of them), I decided to do it myself with a US$12.95 (shipping included) "1200mAh Battery for IPOD PHOTO U2 4TH 4G 20GB 30GB 40GB" from Ebay.

After performing hard drive upgrade surgery on my Macbook Pro (http://www.flickr.com/photos/colink/sets/72157622276629025/detail/) I figured it should be a piece of cake... and it did turn out to be pretty easy.

It happened. I finally caved and we dropped a grand on a new swamp cooler setup. This beast of a swamp which puts out 4500 CFM draws a mere 400W. That is only a 1/3 of what a small unit AC will draw and this covers 4x the space as a small AC. It took a full day to pickup and install the swamp with a hired friend doing most of the work. We have a second day left for getting a custom fabricated ducting. It's strange to install one of these so late in the summer, but within a hour of turning it on I saw the indoor temperature drop from 92F to 72F.

Of course, I forgot to take a photo before reassembling the power supply! The new cap is under there, really! The old one was a Rifa PME271M capacitor.

A must view! A 1972 Ford work truck was parked across the street from my house, while two guys were working there. I noticed the "novel" gas tank cap and had to take a picture of it. Wonder if it will pass inspection? Shot with a Nikon D-90, Tamron 10-24mm lens set at 10mm, ISO 200, F-11, and shutter at 1/8 sec, using available light.

I hope this doesn't gross anybody out, but if you have a new knee in your future, this is what it will look like for a while. This one seems to be healing and working well.
