When Barb picked the word for this week I almost immediately knew what picture I wanted to use. I remember taking this photo after one of the few snow falls we had this past winter. In my garden I was so intrigued by the way the ice had formed little balls of white crystals on each one of the buds remaining on a branch of Russian Sage in my garden. It was so beautiful in the sun light it absolutely glistened. This image does not capture the true essence of that shimmer but it does show the little ice balls formed on the buds. White on white with just the darkness of the branch in contrast. You can just barely make out other hints of plants in the background. I don't know why but I love the purity and simplicity of this image!
Honour the fallen heroes
See their last resting place
Perished in the battle of nations
Where they found eternal peace
Do you know the use of their decorations?
Awarded for patriotism
They left their life in fire
But don't know even why
To the command of despotic dictators
They marched to fight in a senseless war
Most of them were just puppets and children
The battle was lost before it began
Brotherly in heart and hand
Know that they never come back
With combined effort
And the believe in god
Their duty only as cannon fodder
Kamikaze as living bombs
Driven into the open knife
Deceitful and malicious
Their tormented souls will never rest
To pay us back for their innocent death
No quarter shed our proud blood
Retaliation on the warpath
Remember the fallen
Remember the fallen
I remember when rock was young
Me and Suzie had so much fun
holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were Rocking Round the Clock
we were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock
Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
when your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy mama those Friday nights
when Suzie wore her dresses tight
and the Crocodile Rocking was out of sight
But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy
Long nights crying by the record machine
dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans
But they'll never kill the thrills we've got
burning up to the Crocodile Rock
Learning fast as the weeks went past
we really thought the Crocodile Rock would last

This picture has a story, but I can't find it at the moment. At Lanhydrock House, Cornwall. This cross was placed here in memory of Thomas 'Tommy' Charles Agar-Robartes MP (1881-1915), who was killed in Loos, France in the WWI.

Since my Omma passed away last last year I feel like I've been going through an identity crisis. I've lost the grasp on my Korean-ness. I've had to learn to dig deep into myself to remember and to push myself to read and speak Korean, even if it's just to myself. Everyday, I take a moment to look at myself in the mirror and remind myself of who I am. A Korean-American woman. It will be through my memories that I find my identity again.
Looking at this photo I see my mother's eyes. She was always face forward in her actions and her thoughts. Eyes full of unconditional love and compassion. Eyes that I miss so very much. I will honor her memory by doing my best to do the same. Love everyday. Love fully. Happy Mother's Day, Omma. I love you.

My classes will begin this Summer '09 and be at the gorgeous Hart Farm Retreat here in Wisconsin.
Since we are returning to Las Vegas in June 2005, I'm reliving some memories of last summer in this new set. We are waiting for our dinner and for the show to begin in Excalibur. This photo was taken by our friend, Carl, with our Nikon Lite Touch 150 Zoom film camera.
More photos of the trip can be seen at: community.webshots.com/user/jybaxter
I never did finish uploading all our pics from the trip though.

Remember the Ten Run, Stillwater Oklahoma. We will never forget those men that were representing Oklahoma State in various capacities that trip for a Big 12 road basketball game at Colorado. They are Kendall Durfey (radio engineer), Bjorn Fahlstrom (co-pilot), Nate Fleming (Cowboys player), Will Hancock (athletic media relations for basketball), Daniel Lawson (Cowboys player), Brian Luinstra (athletic trainer), Denver Mills (pilot), Pat Noyes (basketball operations director), Bill Teegins (play-by-play radio announcer) and Jared Weiberg (basketball manager).
This one has kind of crappy lighting, but hey, I took it with a cell phone so I have pride!
Do you remember?
There is something special behind it for me...but what do YOU remember?
Memory is what's important, and a single picture can bring back thousands.
