Alzheimer's

(Noun)

Progressive mental deteriorization that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the most common cause of premature senility.

That is the definition of Alzheimer's. What that definition fails to mention is that it affects so much more than the brain. You lose someone you love, to a point beyond recognition. Someone who raised you, forgets who you are, and you are left watching the person you love and admire slip away into a shell of lost memories.

All that is left is the hope that where ever their mind is resting now, it is somewhere that you can say "Remember me?" and they can reply "Always."

At this time of year, when we look to Eurovision with an Abraham-related sigh, what better way to spend a Thursday evening than in the company of pop greatness.

Spent this evening at the first West End Eurovision night- which featured the cast of 7 West End musicals, hence the late start of 11.30 (at my age on a schoolnight too!).

It was actually pretty good, a great warm-up for next week. My vote went to Mamma Mia's very Pans People-esque performance of "Ding-a-Dong", but the winners and crowd favourite was Wicked's "Ooh aah...".

Cheryl Baker was on the judging panel, along with Frances Ruffelle, who came cross as rather like Minnie Driver's character in Will & Grace, if that makes any sense...

Also the lady from Bardot, and the bloke behind Grease who was on the ITV show. Plus the whole theatre was full of cast and friends of the musicals involved... We could've been amongst West End Royalty. But it was really all about The Scooch for us.

Many young people stepped in to fill the missing spots from family members who had died in battle or who had passed away with age.

There can't be many cities which have a plaque remembering the victims of war created by armaments produced locally. But Derry - the city that kicked out Raytheon - is one such place, in a plaque on the city walls at Guildhall Square, close to Shipquay Gate.

It is also to be noted that the upper, official, plaque was erected (about 2005) remembering 'all those' who lost their lives as a result of war and conflict. Everyone.

FEIC, the Foyle Ethical Investment Campaign, erected the lower plaque on 2nd February 2006 at the time of the visit of US Veterans for Peace activist Former US Marine Staff Sergeant Jimmy Massey. See link to the indymedia report below

Logo Design

The FHL logo was designed for Remember The Children (http://www.remember-the-children.org), an organization that opens doors for underprivileged Gypsy children in Romania by providing medical, dental, clothing, and educational support. Everything was illustrated to make the logo fun and dynamic.

i remember when

when we were younger

when moments

seemed like they would never end

i remember when

when you looked at me

a smile crossing your lips

i remember your touch

your kiss

your words

all replay in my mind

over and over

a slow tormented melody

i want moments again

my heart aches

my soul breaks

without you

i remember when

time seemed endless

and now

it seems

time will never end.

My grandfather served in both great wars. First in Belgium and France and Second in Hong Kong under the Royal Rifles of Canada. He survived both wars to be with his family and love ones. We remember you Pop!
