Heather loves caves and caverns so on this trip back East I tried to take her to as many as possible. The first one on our list was Luray Caverns, near Luray, Virginia. I visited these caverns as a kid, probably over 40 years ago.
A lot of reviews knocked Luray Caverns as too commercialized but we thought they were great. Incredible formations everywhere. We lucked out and got to go on a self paced tour so we weren't stuck traveling in a group. This was a great place to visit and we both gave it a 5 star rating.

Tonight's sky. I tried to get a sky reflection shot in my icy driveway but it wasn't working, so I pointed the camera upwards instead.

Well here is my contribution to the silver theme today. After looking at everyones reflection shots in their Christmas decs I couldn't resist the erge to join the gang.
I was quite surprised how clear this shot is and the amount you can see in my living room.
An update on our snowy Christmas. It is now raining so typically the chance of actually having a white Christmas in the UK has nowofficially been dashed

Reflection shot of a Moorhen who was slightly ruffled at my local, partially frozen lake this morning.
I took these photos on 5 February 2013 - there were no planned events for this day; the photos were mainly costumed characters hanging out near the Doges Palace, the Piazza di San Marco, and the Gondola Landing - great places to people watch!
These bells are only good for reflection shots when they are brand new. After a couple months of riding, they get a nice patina, but they are no longer sufficiently reflective for shots like this.
On the Taconic Trail near Brace Mountain, New York. Dave and I did a long loop between Alander and Brace Mountains in New York state. The trail crosses many small streams and a few of them have just the right conditions for interesting reflection shots. Between the rocks, beech leaves, tree reflections and moving water this one was my favorite.
This is the sky that lead to the current host of the reflection shots for now. In fact this day is similar to my carnival shots in that at least two (or more) elements have to shine at the same time. I discovered that capturing three carnival rides operating at the same time was nearly impossible. I hope to discover a new path that interests me before long but for now, this subtle afternoon clouding is what I have traveled here to capture. I am on the same journey at Golden Ponds when I was blessed with good skies and interesting waters that reflected the great skies. We have been subject to many days with dud skies and I was determined to take advantage of these skies. The clouds are what generated the great reflections on the water around the snags. Autumn is over; I have resolved that my best autumn ever is at a close and I need to switch to a different mindset. I made another loop of the path because we had a break in the overcast and some ripples on the water. The original size is nearly 20meg but still, sadly, a .JPG. It should be large enough if you wish to download and use it. I can prepare a torrent file if you are in dire need of this in a large .TIFF format..
I needed a lot more exercise because I have spent too much time at the computer. I got a couple of shots of the foliage in the distance but it is deteriorating so I let it go dark but processed like crazy. I guess this scene just grabbed me emotionally for some reason. I think the close-in water looks like textured shower curtain glass and I like it. I decided to recapture earlier shots. I made the most of the clouds. I see too many scenes ruined by flare from blank skies posted on Flickr and feel sorry for their selection of glass on their cameras. I wish they would opt for better single-focal length lenses instead of those 12-16X zooms.
I took these photos while wandering aimlessly around San Marco Piazza in Venice during the Carnevale in February 2010. It was quite an experience - all these costumed characters milling about waiting to be photographed by throngs of paparazzi. I lucked out by doing a lot of one-on-one shooting with the costumed people. I'd love to get back there next year to try new things and check out the new costumes!
I took these photos at the 2010 Carnevale in Venice in early February 2010. This is the second set of photos since the first one was getting way too big.
For the most part I just wandered around the piazza looking for different characters with elaborate and creative costumes and masks - and they were everywhere - it was such fun shooting with these people - most of whom were so good to shot with. Enjoy.

I took these photos at a Dale Chihuly Exhibit held in Kew Garden, London, in October 2005. Dale Chihuly is an interesting character known for his innovative work with glass sculptures - it was a very impressive exhibit!
I know this is not very sharp. Have been trying for some time now to get an in flight reflection shot. To date this is my best attempt. I endeavour to do better! :)
I was playing with mirror reflection shots of different objects around the room this evening when I decided to take a photograph looking directly at the mirror. After placing the mirror on a few different surfaces, I came to the conclusion that I wanted the photograph to be in black and white. To obtain a good contrast between the mirror shot and the surface, I knew the surface had to be white. I opened Notepad on the laptop, maximized the window, and placed the mirror on the laptop screen. I proceeded to take the photograph, ensuring that I was shooting directly over the mirror, but also framed the reflection into the centre of the photograph. The white "blank" space is the laptop screen, and I have not cropped this photograph to make the mirror centralised. For added artistic effect, I applied vertical grain to make the photo look like it was from an old film movie.
Taken at Muskallonge Lake State Park in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The morning was absolutely calm, allowing these reflection shots on the water.
Another reflection shot, this time of the highrise apartment blocks along Cheyne Walk in Chelsea.
I really like the way that the buildings stand out against the sky with only a tiny bit of post-processing.
Window reflection shot.. Only manipulation is a slight crop - maybe 5% taken off the original photo...
I took these photos near the Church of Santa Maria della Salute at the Carnevale in Venice in February 2010. One of the Flickr photographers told me the costumed characters meet there at certain days and times. The first day was extremely windy - most of the characters had to hang on to their tops or else they would be blown off. The second day was much better. It was a great experience!

The fountain outside of the Vancouver Art Gallery was off and made for a nice reflection shot!
