There is a saying among landscape photographers, "Always look behind you". This happens when something majestic is in front of you and your focus is fixed on it. Sometimes there is a very compelling scene that you are missing that may not be quite as majestic but is beautiful nonetheless. The back story - I was in Mount Rainier National Park for two night and was totally shut out on the first night. The fog had settled on the mountain and I could hardly see in front of me. The next morning, I wanted to get a reflection shot of Rainier from the hopefully still waters of Reflection Lake. It was clear when I left, so I had high hopes for "the" shot. As I drove down into the valley where the lake is located, the fog reappeared. "The" shot was not to be, as the fog was gone from Rainier but not the valley. I headed back to the hotel and started hiking up the Skyline Trail toward the towering mountain. I was mesmerized by the snow-covered peak, and then something in my subconscious told me to turn around. When I did, I saw the valley with the fog that had caused me to miss "the" shot but gave me a different one.
I visited the Maplewood Conservation Area early on Saturday with very heavy cloud cover. This provided a very good set up for a mirror reflection shot of this Great Blue Heron.

I was looking for new ways to take metro shots with a twist. I'm not saying these three are the cat's meow, simply that I think they show potential that I hadn't really thought of before.
Ugh...second from the last week and all I have to offer is another lame reflection shot. On a positive note, I am almost finished with this project. :)

Most is in front, but the guy on the left and the escalator are reflected, they are behind. Also the Purple of the Polo Towers is behind.
All reflected in the glass walls of the bridge I was crossing...
The rest is modern architecture and only time will tell :-)
This is a HDR shot of bracketing exposure ... I was planning for long time to take this shot when reflection of sunset will be right away over the Swimming pool . I am not sure whether this is the right place to have this sunset reflection shot but for me it is what it was ...
The shot taken without tripod and later processed in normal photography processing techniques .
Here's another one of these long exposure foam and reflection shots. The rivers in New Zealand generally have very clear blue or green water but this one is in a limestone catchment with vegetation and soils that leach a lot of tannin, thus giving the rich red/brown color to the water.

Once again, it's hard to pass up a nice reflection shot, even if it's just a mundane SD70M, albeit a slightly less mundane SD70M than most.

Assignment 2. Mirror/Reflection. A great, though challenging, compositional element is the mirror. Use reflections to complement your subject. Anyone doing a self-portrait in a mirror will be tagged “phoned in.” All other reflections are fair game.
The distortion in the window of a parked car seemed to fit the day: chilly and very windy. I love the cold but not the wind. Another reflection shot.
"Fountain of Fall" certainly the best reflection shot I've ever taken and have to give credit to Linda in leading me to the water... hehe just like an Aquarius should! She liked the fall side of this fountain for the sound of water pouring and I, the Pisces looking for visual food, the topside for reflection sooo together we made a beautiful composition!
Bit of a cheesy reflection shot bagged of 66143 + 66021 working 0F57 14:50 St Blazey - Westbury Down Yard, some 31 minutes early, the last ever locomotives to work under Lostwithiel's semaphores. Someone had tried to use the old BR depot run headcode for Westbury (0F75) but that was already in use for a Bescot - Westbury run that day so 0F57 would have to do!

The stream below the beaver dam at Schwabacher Landing offers great reflection shots in the morning and around sunset. This is the area you will pass before you arrive at the site in the pine trees by the beaver dam infamous for reflection shots of the Grand Teton.
In some areas of Jackson Hole, you will definitely notice that, even at this time in early September, fall colors are starting to show up. For example, when you drive to Jackson Lake Lodge and you pass Teton Park Rd on the left, you have 2 pullout/overview areas on the left. The 2nd one just before the left turn into Jackson Lake Lodge parking lot, has a grove of Aspens which are approaching full fall color as of Sept. 5th. Don't believe it? Ask someone who visits the area often...Flickr's Daryl Hunter. If you will be in Jackson Hole at the end of Sept for the fall colors, the Aspens will have already peaked at this location.
Even the Cottonwood trees are turning...take a drive along Gros Ventre Road or along Rt 191 past Jackson Lake Lodge towards Colter Bay and see for yourself ... look at the Aspens around Christian Pond...you'll be surprise how much the Aspens have turned there.
But don't be dismayed, while many of the Aspens and Cottonwood trees are stressed from the lack of rain between May and the first part of July, many have yet to turn. And the majority of these will be ready for your visit at the end of September and early October.

Today most European countries have shut down all public services to celebrate the Ascension of Jesus...here in Amsterdam we ride up into Heaven on our bikes, divine or not :))
P.s. I was a bit worried that you might get bored and/or too confused (check the comments on the pics of the last weeks and you'll know what I mean, haha ;) with the 'New style double reflection' shots, so here's an 'Old School regular wicked puddle reflection' to help you regain some composure, hehe ;-)

The current version of Q213/Q214 is typically a single unit. Here's a nice reflection shot at Tuscawilla Park in the morning. October 29 2018 at 0937. This area has grown up so badly in recent years.

A "parking lot" carnival on an August evening in Columbia, in Boone County Missouri. When I arrived at the carnival and immediately noticed a giant puddle by the Yo-Yo. A man in van then proceeded to park right over puddle. Luckily he left about five minutes later. I set up my tripod and snapped this low-angle reflection shot.

Yesterday I went outside to take some wicked reflection shots but most puddles were frozen, so I had to break the ice with my feet to be able to present you this picture :)
The Netherlands are experiencing an unusually cold period, together with the rest of Europe/the World, and a lot of people are making comments on the web that obviously the whole 'Global Warming' phenomenon is a scam, that Al Gore is a liar and we should all drive around in cars as much as possible to give nature a little push in the right direction, hahaha :D
Stay inside, stay warm and don't forget to feed the birds, they don't even have central heating!
After a few days of mild (for February) weather, accompanied by some very heavy downpours, Friday dawned somewhat chilly, but a least there was a clear sky.
Walking along London's South Bank on my way to work, I thought I'd have a go at getting some sort of reflection shot using one of the many puddles.
So here we have some of the attractive lamp posts reflected in a puddle, with the floodlit St Paul's Cathedral visible in the distance.
Tourists on rented bikes, reflected in a puddle...
As you can see, these tourists look irritated, not because they saw me hunched over a puddle, snapping some wicked reflection shots (ok, maybe a little bit), but rather because they came to the best city in the world, assuming that they could have a wild time here with Sex, Drugs&Rock'n'Roll, only to find out that our government (well, the glorious local chapter of the Right-wing-religious-nutcases in charge) has outlawed anything that might have attracted visitors to Amsterdam in the past.
Even though we do still have some Coffeeshops and a (much smaller) Red-Light-District, you can't buy Magic Mushrooms anymore, you can't smoke a cigarette anywhere, can't drink a beer with your joint and by decision of the major all big dance events must be 100% drug-free...hell, you are not even allowed to stand up if you are drinking a beer on the terrace of a bar...no kidding!
I know it is our own fault, because even though everybody is complaining about the fact that our great leaders have put the bible back into almost every aspect of daily life, when the next election comes up, everybody will vote for Mr. Harry Potter&his gang of whacky weirdos again, for some reason I fail to understand, but I guess that's just me being an idiot :D
Oh yeah, to make up for all these losses, we've turned to killing people across the planet for fun...and they've called Tony Blair the lap dog of G.W. Bush!
Come and visit us before Amsterdam has finished becoming a boring small village that has nothing to offer that you can't find in your own hometown, hurry, they're working fast on the deconstruction of the mystical free city as you might know it from the tales of your forefathers&mothers ;-))
P.s. If I sound bitter, it's probably from all those hours of smoking&drinking in the cold wind outside of all those cool places where me&my friends used to have such good times in ye olde Amsterdam, I'll go and read the bible now, maybe I'll feel better then, haha :D
