I have avoided the paths near the main parking place in Nuuksio National Park. This has been unfortunate since there are couple of nice places around. One of them is Myllypuro brook which also has surprisingly nice rapids. After first roll of film with my Vermeer Pinhole I also was now more confident with pinhole photography.

Rocks in Niagara rapids

So I was sick of winter until yesterday when I went out to Pine Point Rapids in WhiteShell Provincial Park. I've been on this trail many times in the past, but this is a first in the winter.

The hike in was about 45 minutes, but actually pretty easy as the snow on the path is pretty packed down. Just don't step off as you sink down into 1 to 2 feet of snow.

I was thinking it must be pretty spectacular in the morning light, but would mean leaving about 5AM for the 1 1/2 drive and 45 minute hike in. Any takers? Let me know as I may try next weekend if the skies look favourable.

Wandering through Animal Kingdom in January was a strange experience. The park was deserted with 2 hours left until park closing and it had dipped into the 50's (chilly!). Kali River Rapids was completely empty, so I walked right into the queue and the CM's looked at me like I was crazy. I got to talk with them for a while and shoot some of the queue and the loading area. I really liked this view from the bridge while exiting the ride. I still feel like the picture is missing something, so any suggestions are appreciated.

The weather wasn't promising around Fairbanks this weekend so I headed to Denali Highway and Richardson Highway. Here is the Black rapids glacier, already covered with snow while some fall colors are still visible on the foreground.

Another shot from the beautiful and primal Johnston Canyon, halfway between Banff and Lake Louise, from my day trip into the mountains about a month ago.

Here you can see the Canyon at one of its wider points, with the rapids rushing forcefully past and the footpath starting to angle upwards on the left.

Have an excellent week, everyone, even though it is Tuesday today, my work week is just starting!

While on Goat Island, which is part of Niagara Falls State Park, I decided to stop along the upper rapids that go to the American side of the falls.

Kodak Compur-Rapids.

It had a fixed focal length and fully manual. You hadto estimate the subject distance as the viewfinder only aided with framing the subject. Exposure settings required applying the sunny 16 guide, or using an external light meter.

This Sound of Lights competition is a magnet for my camera. As I was returning home after a rainy evening on a tennis court, I made a detour to Remic Rapids just to catch the end of Switzerland`s fireworks and got a few quick shots.

My favorite shooting place is back again on flickr. The waterfalls at the old mill in Kvarnbo. This time in black and white and focus on the water and a branch with ice on.
