Sunday morning at Kapeenkoski Rapids, Laukaa - Aanekoski, Finland.
Air temperature -20*C, water temperature "ice cold".
Another shot taken at the lovely and majestic Elbow Falls from our trip out there at the end of September on the way to see Sloan in nearby Bragg Creek, here you can see a side view of the falls and rapids and the incredible rock formations surrounding them.
It was a beautiful early autumn afternoon, with warm sun, a nice breeze, and a gently overcast sky to top it all off!
Hope you are all having an excellent week so far; I can't believe it's Wednesday already!
With the flooding, I decided to post some more of my bridge group in Cedar Rapids, IA. Let's hope the damage is minimal today.
I normally shoot flowing water in diffuse light because the contrasts created by direct sunlight are often tricky to handle. Here, however, I picked a spot on the River Plym with little light contrast and fully turned the polariser, allowing me to expose the detail and colour at the bottom of the river. Thanks for looking.
(The EXIF data got stripped during a TIF conversion, so: f18 and 15 seconds at a focal length of 27 mm, ISO 100.)
Taken just behind the Horn Rapids Dam on the Yakima River located in north Richland, Washington. Rattlesnake Mountain in the background, providing a nice reflection.
MUST: View Large on Black
During my camping trip this past weekend, I spent most of the Saturday afternoon at Pine Point Rapids. It's about a 10km trail from the car and back again and certainly worth the hike.
Rocky rapids between a lake and a stream at Oscar Scherer State Park, Florida. Picture taken from the footbridge spanning the rapids.
Looking at the rapids across the river in the very early morning. A 400mm telephoto comes in handy.
Every now and then, I like to send a few photos to Photoshop Express on the tablet where there are lots of layout templates. It is a cumbersome process, but it is something to play with on occasion.
While I can make composites in Photoshop, it is nice to have so many layouts already available in Express.

Grand Canyon National Park
This photo was taken of the canyon wall at the bottom of 75 Mile Canyon near it's confluence with the Colorado River. The pattern in the rock here strongly reminded me of rapids on the river.
Grand Rapids, MI. August 25, 2024. Shot on a Mamiya 7II and Kodak Gold 200. Developed and scanned by The Darkroom.
Ristafallet, Järpen, Åre in Sweden.
Been raining a bit during the past few days, so there's alot of water coming down from the mountains.
The original RailTex paint job on GR #3839 was still holding up well 15 years after being repainted. #3839 would later be among the first units in the state to get the orange dip in 2014, becoming MMRR #2057.

Taken during our Grand Rapids morning walk on Friday. It was great to actually have blue skies and a few passing clouds.
Mesmerizing power captured in this breathtaking shot of the rapids in Niagara! Nature's unyielding force in all its glory, reminding us of the sheer beauty and grandeur that surrounds us. Standing on the edge, feeling the mist on my face, I can't help but be humbled by this awe-inspiring spectacle.
Looking across the Shenandoah River from Virginius Island there are many rapids and similarly fun places to ride rafts and tubes down the river
The Cache la Poudre River in northeastern Colorado is a classic whitewater river for rafting. This was taken at near the end of the spring rise along a stretch I had rafted with my wife's work party earlier in the day.
In November I shoot this place with b&w film and I returned almost the same spot this May with a different interpretation. I like this place.
An afternoon along the whitewater rapids of the Wild Wolf River near White Lake, WI.

On a beautiful Sunday morning, the Friday edition of the Rapids Local wheels around the curve under Highway 23 at Wrenshall, MN. BNSF 1974 and 1581 are in charge of this 14 car train died at Cloquet on Friday night and finally was being pulled into Superior by a relief crew, highballing the pickup at Cloquet. BNSF is having a hard time moving trains, even far from winter and the oil fields. Schedules are totally unpredictable and most trains run late. Later on this Sunday, another Rapids Local and the Brainerd Local ran, very rare for a Sunday. I don't sense they were running early for Monday, but were missed trips from Saturday and Friday respectively.
