This is my one of my favorite vantage points to see downtown. This is a 25 second exposure with a big crop. I have some blown highlights due to me forgetting to spot meter as opposed to matrix mode. Oops. I'm still not 100% happy with the result but will keep trying.
There was absolutely nothing going on. Everything was laying low because of the temps. There were a few people out and about but I think most were indoors basking in the air conditioning .
When their sons were grown and had left home to help with the war effort (WWII), my grandparents could no longer manage their large farm. They moved to an apartment in Grand Rapids, where my grandpa found work at this factory. A few years later, my mom worked there too, but just briefly. During my childhood, I heard mention of this place many times. But I never saw the building until three years ago, when I was in Grand Rapids driving around the city aimlessly and chanced upon it. McInerney no longer occupies it, but the structure remains.

The rapids of the Hillsborough River, a rare sight in Florida, can be easily found at Hillsborough River State Park, They are just a short walk from the nearest parking area, and the accessibility makes them a favorite among Tampa Bay photographers.
At one time, I would have considered Bond Falls a well kept UP secret, but the combination of the efforts of the Michigan Ad Council and the addition of handicapped accessibility has kept the parking lots and trails full and busy. Parking on top and hiking the trail down to the falls leads you past a series of rapids that beg to be photographed...and after a lifetime of visiting this place, I have to admit - I still don't go there without a camera. I never get tired of these falls.

Huge waves and whirlpools that we could approach no closer, even in a boat as powerful a the Naiad Explorer. Fortunately Captain Bill has local knowledge to put us close to these very dangerous rapids just after peak ebb, 13.4 knots today.

The side of a powerhouse with rapids in the foreground during a sunset. Being around this spot makes me nervous, because I am not sure where the international border runs, I have heard stories of some fishermen who have been arrested for venturing too far across the river.
