Not my normal thing but I decided to play a bit abstractly with the water at Rocky Mt. National Park. The river in Estes is everywhere. It seemed to be behind every place I went, and roared behind my van at the RV park. The snow was melting so fast the flow of water was amazing and I couldn't figure out how to make a pleasing photograph with all that white water. I found a relatively "calm" area of rapids and took this shot, then played in Topaz and Photoshop to create this image. This is one I'd really like honest opinions on, as I usually stay away from gimmicks and may just be over enamored with my own creation to evaluate it objectively. If you don't like it, I'd appreciate that feedback. Thanks
Stretch of fast water on lower reaches of the Rushing River in northwestern Ontario, Canada. Palette knife painting on stretched canvas (oil, 12x24 in).
We were alone when my wife and I arrived at the Oxtongue River rapids, but within ten minutes a crowd of photographers, some toting lenses the size of Volkswagens, poured into the site, clambering over the rocks and even into the water, making it impossible to change locations.
I am glad we got there when we did.
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Glen Etive is one of the most stunning of Scotlands highland glens. Captured in this shot are the Etive Rapids at the Falls of Glen Etive on River Etive that flows through the valley and is an area favoured by many thrill seekers with their white water rafting being a site to watch for thrills and spills.
If the action on the river isn't for you then you cannot help but be impressed by the majestic mountains that only look more amazing when you view them at different seasons of the year.
For those who are walking the West Highland Way, this is a short detour from the track when you reach the Kingshouse Hotel at Glencoe and worth the extra miles for.
Surface of the Black Rapids Glacier covered in 6 inches of fresh snow from the night before. The weather was gorgeous, but it looked like it could turn at any moment.
Cold but beautiful night in Myllykoski rapids.

It was often hot and hazy at Wisconsin Rapids and the smell of the paper mills was nearly a constant. I didn't often see the RS3 rebuilds on 1&2 west of the Rapids, especially leading but I did catch this number 2 arriving on the west side of the river with 307 and 313 leading 31 cars on July 13, 1984.
From Sunday, July 9, 1989 a swing by the old Milwaukee Road yard at Wisconsin Rapids produced a pair of WC locos--both ex-Soo Line GP30s. The WC 711 and 716 sat alongside the small yard office in downtown.

A few miles downstream from Niagara Falls are these amazing class 6 whitewater rapids, see link for video.
This shot of Grand Rapids took a lot of effort... and you probably cannot tell. It looks like a ho-hum scene; I should post the original so you can see the differences. Let's just say I did some work to get here.
