Rails and Stones
My hometown is really small - so is the railway station. It's pretty safe to walk on the rails - there are only a few trains coming every day.

Bloomingdale Line used to go further, under Kennedy Expressway, across the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and towards Clybourn manufacturing district. In 2003, the portion on the other side of the fence was literally cut off. You can still see the old tracks on the other side of the fence, a couple of meters to the east.

Photos of the first Rails Girls event in Vienna, taken at the HUB on 18. + 19. January 2013. Rails Girls' goal is to introduce women and girls to the world of programming with Ruby on Rails. For more details, see the official event page.
Once the rails were on. it was easy to use them as stepping points to mount the panels. The panels are quite heavy 60lbs each, and the roof was pretty slopped. It wasn't fun standing up there, even with a harness on. I was coordinating from the bottom with binoculars.
Another view of the rail before the installation of the panels. The 3" tall rails, in addition to being stronger, also allow for additional ventilation of the solar panel, especially important on a metal roof. Heat is the enemy of electronics. You can see more of the grounding wires and the pre-installed brackets that hold the panels to the rails. The cables connecting the optimizers are inside of the rails.
