Walkers follow a wide path that was formerly the right-of-way of the rail line running form the now-demolished Bastille train station in Paris to Marles-en-Brie via Fontenay-sous-Bois, Verneuil-l'Etang, Chaumes and Fontenay-Trésigny. The line was decommissioned and the rails removed in the early 1970's. In the background, the viaduct over the Yerres.

A project of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (www.railstrails.org), this 8.5-mile gravel path is built on a former railroad bed. I ride my mountain bike here a lot and usually have it to myself, or nearly so. In the background is a modern covered bridge that now stands on the site of an old railroad trestle over a small creek.
