Being a member of the rail family we were fortunate even to have this good of a view. If you look carefully at this photo there is one of at least two young birds (in black) in the top left of the picture feeding with this adult bird.

Another view of the rail before the installation of the panels. The 3" tall rails, in addition to being stronger, also allow for additional ventilation of the solar panel, especially important on a metal roof. Heat is the enemy of electronics. You can see more of the grounding wires and the pre-installed brackets that hold the panels to the rails. The cables connecting the optimizers are inside of the rails.
